Under the Hammer: My Favorite Lots from Today’s Christie’s NYC Auction
Today at 10AM Eastern Time Zone (UTC -05:00), Christie’s New York Important Watches Auction will begin. I got to sit with the newly appointed Vice President and Senior Specialist of Watches, Eric Wind, and ask him about a few of my favorite timepieces from this season’s auction. If you’re reading this after 10AM, click here to stream the auction and see what these pieces go for in real time.Lot #26 – Universal Genve Gold Chronograph Retailed by HermsUniversal Genve was known as a brand that created groundbreaking designs in the early 20th century. In 1935, the Compax was introduced and it was the first chronograph wristwatch to display both hour & minute registers. Herms was one of the first retailers to carry the Universal Genve Compax in Europe but the partnership was short-lived, so not many of these co-branded pieces have survived. This example is from 1936 and has an outer track tachometer in blue and telemeter in red, very large registers, origina
My new speedy pro sapphire sandwich :)
Hi Guys My AD was having a sale on Rolex and Omega. Omega was around 50% off depending on models. Mainly speedys and planet oceans. I got a brand new Speedy Pro sapphire sandwich moon watch for USD $2500.00The Planet Ocean on bracelet was USD $2000.00 but I already have a Sub C.Love the manual wind and the see-thru back of the cool movement. Which Aqua Terra Dial?
Hello All,I currently own two Omega's, one Seamaster Pro quartz and an Aqua terra 2500 chronometer. The AT I have has a plain silver dial, which i am growing to hate day by day It looks too dull and somehow boring to look at. I went to my local AD, and he told me they can order a replacement dial from Switzerland for about $400 and it will be here after one month approx.I was wondering, which one to choose from. Ive always wanted the cream coloured dial with the blue indices and hands, and that was the one i wanted to buy in the first place but it was sold off. However, i am gaining a sweetooth for black dialed dress watches, the black dialed model looks stunning. My SM pro is blue (bond version) and that would serve mostly as my casual watch. The AQ is the dress watch. Can you please help me out here?!! And what justifies choosing one color over the other? Many Thanks
Thoughts on Tudor BB Heritage Chrono?
Considering getting this. I know it's gotten a lot of hate but for some reason I love everything about it. It's a diver/ chrono in one but I would just call it a sports watch? Anyway, what your thoughts on the baytona ? I thought it looks like a birth child of the Daytona and Speedmaster. The price is great too.
Tokyo Haneda Rolex Boutique
This one takes the cake for what possibly is the saddest collection of Rolex I have ever seen at an AD. There was a Milgauss and white dial Exp II. They only had a few DDs, 2 TT Daytonas, 2 YG Daytonas and the rest were pretty much just Datejusts. I get that there is an SS shortage, but this AD was notably missing a lot of PM sports models and even selection for DDs.I'm comparison, at my home AD on Thursday, they had a lot of SS sports models minus LV, BLNR, SD43, D-Blue and DaytonaC. But they also had pretty much every other PM sport Rolex available (BLRO, Smurf, etc.) and a huge selection of DDs.
