Watches NEWS
aBlogtoRead.com Featured In The Financial Times
Did you know that the Financial Times has a special section from time to time called "Watches & Jewelry?" I didn't either until recently. How neat is that?A recent Financial Times article discussing the power of blog in the watch industry featured myself (Ariel Adams) and aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer. While brief, the article mentions the immense influence blogs have over the watch industry as well as the people who buy watches. It also remarks on how the watch industry doesn't always know how to deal with blogs like aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer, as what I (and the few others like me) do is often quite different from the traditional watch media.Nevertheless, the Financial Times suggests that sites like aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer command a readership and awareness that watch companies realize is something that have to adapt to. Many thanks to reporter Simon de Burton who covered the story. I am honored to be recognized by the Financial Times and featured in their fine publication. Also tha
Final 3
I already put a post in the Rolex section so won't put the same one here, just wanted the Patek fans to have a look if they want, so here's the link:.rolexforums/showthread.php?t=381374
New Watch, my first Patek!
Picked this guy up today, 5980 blue dial--my first Patek! I wanted something with a metal bracelet for my first Patek because I don't like wearing leather on a daily basis especially in the summer, and i've always been drawn to the Nautilus and especially the 5980. The fit and finish of this watch is outstanding, and I just love the blue dial and the way it seems to change colour in different light. I think the dial has a really clean look for a chrono and i'm glad to be able to add it to my collection! The only negative things I can say so far is the clasp seems a little 90s, and the rotor makes a little noise when it turns almost like a faint ratcheting sound. Not a big deal I guess, I think i've just been spoiled by the silent Rolex rotors. I asked the dealer about it and he said it was normal and i've also read that it's fairly common for the 5980 online as well. Anyways here is the customary wrist shot! Glad to finally be part of the Patek club! And from the drive home fro
116520 Daytona dial differences
A while back I noticed that there are 2 different dials on the current 116520’s. I had just bought a new black faced one and saw someone else’s pictures of his. The difference seemed minor (and it probably is for most people) but I had to find out in real life. Tim (train-time) had noticed it as well and with his help I managed to trace a few other black faced Daytona’s to do some comparison. side by side.jpgSo what are the differences? There are 3:1)Ticks at the 27 and 28 positions (single tick vs double tick)2)The shine of the sub dials3)The boldness of the fonts on the sub dialsSingleclose up 1 tick 2.jpg Doubleclose up 2 tick 2.jpgThe shine of the sub dials on the double tick is much more profound. It is hard to capture in a picture, but from a distance it is really noticeable. It gives a the two versions a different look.Less shine1 tick shine.jpg More shine2 tick shine.jpgThe fonts used on the double tick is more profound. As a result it makes the print more rea
True Eternal Rolex Watches
Most Rolexes are just beautiful, but some are in the must have category, and legends that be or will be. I am biased towards GMTs, so I would say that the 5 digit Cokes and Pepsis definitely fit into eternal designs. These watches command their prices simply because it is a no nonsense must have watch to wear proudly. It looks as if the Batman will also participate into one of those eternal designs. The classic submariner also goes in there. I dont believe there is any flipping of these watches but do believe in newer watches flipping. So, there are other watches new in the scene, which shall one day in the distant future earn that title belonging to the few right now. What will those watches be ?
