Ochs Und Junior New Colors And Names For Watches
New patinated dial and handsTwo news items from watch maker ochs und junior - a new moonphase look and a sweeping rename of the models. Since it's brief, we will deal with the rename first. Previously, their watches had evocative names like 'Selene' for moon phase, which probably caused confusion. The line is now renamed according to what they're calling 'time horizons.'Very prosaic and practical. Should make it easier to shop their collection.The other news is the new dial on the moon phase, seen above. The new dial is brass, patinated using a sculpture restoration technique that turns it dark grey. Once that's done, they mill out the indices, moon and date dot to reveal the brass beneath.The hands are also brass, satinized instead of patina finsihed, with a hand-painted second hand. ETA to Cease Making Movements for Outside Watch Makers
Watch forums are a buzz over the fact that ETA will be halting all sales of it's movements to outside watch makers in 2010. ETA is a quasi government-owned company that designs and manufactures watch movements. Some of these go directly to its brands (such as Swatch), others are made in kit form and are sold to outside makers who place the movements in their own watches. The majority of decent automatic movements not made "in-house" by a manufacture, are ETAs. ETA also makes quartz movements.The creation of a new movement is a very complex and difficult task. After the years of design, more years are spent with testing and refinement. Even with normal daily variation, a watch movement must be over 99.99% accurate. This requirement, along with the stress and years of use, do not allow for simple development. Given this fact, most designers spend their time creating a watch around an existing movement. Hello,I've been looking for a rolex to add to my 16610LV; been gravitating around several models: 5513 non-matte dial, 16800, 16700, 16750, but I found myself always drawn back to the explorer 16570. Been attracted to the cream markers on the white dial. I found a U series (circa 1998), titrium wording on the dial, full set; very good condition. The only doubt I have is that the lume is still active - not super luminova like but rather luminova. I have to make up my mind by this week-end or release it...my question to the forum:- is it possible to have a titrium marked dial with luminova indicies?- is it possible for the titrium lume be glowing still?- what are the chances that the lume starts turning yellow?- should I just be looking for an older model altogether with already yellow markers ? ( although the prices in Japan are really hiking upwards on these babies)...- should I go the opposite drection and aim for one with the 3186 movement?The price is definitely high compared to las
