Giulio Papi Explains The New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Laptimer Michael Schumacher Limited Edition (VIDEO)
We took our first look at this watch just last May, when Audemars Piguet announced it – and we said it then and we’ll say it now, we think Audemars Piguet deserves a great deal of credit for sticking with their association with Michael Schumacher, who despite his ongoing struggle with the catastrophic injury he suffered in 2013, remains, and will always remain, one of the greatest (if not the greatest) figures in the history of motorsports. As we also said then, the Laptimer Michael Schumacher is a phenomenal technical achievement, and to help us all understand it a little bit better, we were lucky enough to be able to get a full description of the watch from none other than Giulio Papi, of Audemars Piguet Renaud & Papi, the well-known, ultra-sophisticated horological think tank that’s given us some of the most interesting watches in the world – as well as some of the most interesting watchmakers (alums include Carole Forestier-Kasapi, the brilliantly prolifi
The end of the journey!
Been through a crazy couple of years, owned and sold a bunch of watches, moved to AP but still felt restless. After some agonizing about it, decided to sell everything (almost down to my soul) and consolidate into what a friend called a pinnacle piece ... one that can be a faithful companion for many many years while keeping me a one watch guy, which has been my goal for a while. Without further ado, here she is. Not much to say about her that hasn't been said already. I am just very very happy! And a blurry mirror shot for a better perspective ...
Incoming Moonwatch
Hi All,Having owned and subsequently sold a S/S Daytona that I could never get along with I thought I was done with chronographs. I've been on the hunt for a new piece and with all my other watches being Rolex was keen to have a look at another brand, I also wanted something on a leather strap as all my other are on metal bracelets. As such I started gravitating towards the Omega Speedmaster as it seemed to fit the bill; as iconic in the Omega range as the Submariner is to Rolex, stacks of history and provenance and looks great on a leather strap.Having tried on quite a few of the various moonwatch models I decided on the original 3570.50 and took the advice of a few of you guys and bought it on the bracelet and ordered the deployment strap which I had fitted.Having had the watch for a week now it's definitely an improvement on the Daytona, for me anyway. Uber legible dial, cool retro styling and love the manual wind feature. I would also say that at less than 40% of the price of the D
PATEK with JLC 920 Movement
I would like some opinions on the design and overall quality and finish of the Patek modified JLC920 slim (full rotor) selfwindingMovement. I know this movement isn't used in any Pateks as it has been replaced by the 240 micro rotor calibre. I am intrigued by this movement and would consider the purchase of a Calatrava bearing such a movement.
what to check when buying a new rolex?
Apologies, I'm sure it must have been asked before.I'm going to buy a new rolex from an AD I haven't used before. I'm sure they're reputable, or at least, I assume they are and they're linked from Rolex AD site. What would be sensible due diligence to do at the shop when I pick up the watch?Compare serial number on the paperwork with the watch (is it in an easy to read place on the watch?)Any other common sense stuff should do?
