New In The HODINKEE Shop: Our Exquisitely Crafted Date Window Masks
Date windows on time-only wristwatches: some of you love them, some of you hate them, but now, there's something you can do about them. Don't be a helpless, passive onlooker anymore – with our hand-crafted, artisanal Date Window Masks and a few minutes of spare time, you can be where you want and deserve to be when it comes to date windows: in the driver's seat. 1 OF 1 These are the real deal: each date window is handcrafted for HODINKEE exclusively, and for you, by craftsmen working in traditional date window mask workshops nestled in the hillsides of Tuscany, where our exquisitely and laboriously made straps and other fine leather goods are also created. These aren't the low quality date window masks you may have seen elsewhere – each one is made especially for you, and your fine but flawed timepiece, so that you can finally enjoy your watch as it should be enjoyed. Please accept our invitation to visit our Shop and be among the fi
50th Anniversary Bond?
Will Omega do a Seamaster for the 50th anniversary of the Bond films.
Really like the Speedmaster, but what about water resistance?
Hi all,I have really taken a liking to the Omega's even though I am a Rolex kind of guy. The Omega Speedmaster really is a nice piece as far as looks (though I have never actually tried one on). I am looking into getting one, but I often spend time in the water (or with my hand in my coral reef aquarium). My question is this: I have read that the Speedmaster has a depth rating of 30m/100ft, is that rating meant for me to actually swim with it? (I have checked out the chart in the sticky) What about submersing it for only a few seconds at a time in a saltwater fish tank? I can't be bothered with taking my watch on and off every time I need to stick my hand in my tank (which is often). I just wanted some insight from those of you who have either used in such an environment, or those of you who have worked on them and understand their real world ratings. Thanks much!Ed
Patek 5227R
today i finally part-exchanged my panerai PAM00421 for a calatrava 5227R. this is actually the closest i want to get to a dress watch. the nice thing is that the 5227 can be dressed up or down (usually i go for the latter:::))). the ivory lacquer dial and the breguet hands are really very very nice, as is the case back, that can be opened to show great reflections. i will retire my nautilus for a while and see how it goes with the 5227R:::)))
Disappointed?
Ok, so I'm seeing a lot of dissapointing on this forum concerning the new releases in Basel. But, really, I don't understand it. I mean, what do you expect? Imho, Rolex is a company with products wich are evolving slowly. That's what I appreciate about them. In our 'throw-away/everything is replacable-society' they make an iconic/beyond life-time item. Sometimes it takes time to appreciate. Sometimes they are an instant hit. But they allready made some truly exceptional timepieces with an iconic design. What do you want? That they change rapidly? A new iconic model every baselworld? Are we victim of the Hyper-capitalistic world that our hunger for new things, new impulses is never satisfied? They meet our demand, many of us asked for a steel pepsi GMT. Well it's there, and it's beautiful. It has a beautiful jubilee bracelet. Altough i do prefer an Oyster too. But when I see the comments on this forum, i picture myself a bunch of spoiled children!Let's realize that we are damn lucky to be
