Going Creative: 4 Artistic Watches
High horology isn't just about movements: it's also about aesthetics. The watch brands in Geneva call on a range of decorative techniques, such as guillochage, enameling, and skeletonizing, that can add as much to the cost of watch as can a notable manufacture movement. Here,?four watches showcasing the skills that some high-end watch companies call the metiers d'art. Jaeger-LeCoultre's Master Ultra Thin Grand Feu, a new version of its razor-slim Master Ultra Thin, looks simple but is anything but. Above its 1.85-mm-thick movement, Caliber 849, rests a dial made using the very demanding grand feu (French for big fire ) enamel technique, so named because of the particularly intense heat it requires (800 to 900 degrees C). The enamel is applied in layers; each is fired separately. An instant too long in the oven and the dial, made of gold, is ruined. Jaeger is proud indeed of the dial: the words mail Grand Feu (mail is French for enamel) are inscribed between 7 and 8 o'clock. The w
Hublot Opens Flagship Boutique in Beverly Hills
Hublot has opened its first boutique in the Western United States in Beverly Hills, California. The boutique is located in the heart of the city's most prestigious shopping district, on Brighton Way at Rodeo Drive. Experienced, multi-lingual staff members provide the highest level of customer service, and a VIP lounge within the boutique allows clients to shop in complete privacy. Hublot's watches incorporate unique materials, and they also play a prominent role in the boutique's design. A fa?ade of black stone, leather furnishings, glass and metal fixtures, and high-tech details imbue the Swiss-designed boutique with contemporary style. The Beverly Hills boutique is operated in partnership with John and Greg Simonian, founder and president, respectively, of three Westime multi-brand watch boutiques in Southern California. I have worked with Jean-Claude Biver for more than 20 years. I can attest that he is not only a visionary in this industry, but a dear friend, says John Simonian.
IWC Connect, An Activity Tracker Integrated Into The Strap Of Big Pilot, And Soon To Be All IWC Sport Watches
Here we go again. Today, IWC made the announcement of a new accessory called IWC Connect. This digital device fits onto the strap of mechanical IWC watches – at first just the Big Pilot – and provides full activity tracking. Further, IWC claims it will be able to control certain devices connected to the "Internet of things," the buzzword du jour. Very, very few details are provided on IWC Connect, or how it will compare to Montblanc's e-strap that you will remember launched in January to much buzz. We'll be following this one closely and we'll report back as soon as more information is provided. Further info available here.
Uhh my Omega sickness continues
So I had a Speedie and got rid of it. Now I wish I had it back. I am all Omega now basicly with a 2254 and 2255 in my collection. Now I am longing for a speedy pro again. Maybe ill start looking.
Let's see some movement pics everyone!!!
I have always loved watches with visible movements, so much that I even put a sapphire case back on my sub c LN, I know the movement is nothing special so it might be considered stupid, but it was nice to look at from time to time.I have fallen in love with the 5712, and probably 50% of that love is due to the beautiful movement, I am more than sure that when I will have it I will be looking for a few hours a week at the movement with tears in my eyes If the 5712 didn't have a see through case back I am sure I wouldn't have ordered it.There are a few older Nautilus without the see through and even if they are nice it just doesn't do it for me.Of course the most beautiful movements are usually the ones of hand wound watches, but it's most of the time very expensive pieces. After getting my 5712, maybe in 1-2 years, I am thinking of getting either a 5167 SS on tropical strap, and once again 50% of the interest is the beautiful movement, if not the Aquanaut then probably an Audemars Pigue
