Cecil Purnell La Grande Date Tourbillon Watch
The market for really expensive toys isn't what it used to be. Don't get me wrong, that market for luxury play things comes and goes, but these days it is hard to promote a several hundred thousand dollar watch from a newer brand that looks like it was meant to appeal to fans of traditional watch making who are also weekend militia members. That is the case for this sportier version of the Cecil Purnell La Grand Date Tourbillon watch called the "Pit Lane V12."Cecil Purnell is a brand that is really trying to legitimize itself, but they only probably need to sell a handful of watches each year to stay alive. According to them they ONLY make tourbillon-based watches, and subscribe to the "true values of haute horlogerie." Now that sounds like a BS marketing statement if I ever heard one. To be honest, I would take them much more seriously if their marketing copy didn't sound like it came from a kid who was really desperate to fit in on the playground.Cecil Purnell's website is a joke and
Strap vs Bracelet
Do youll feel there are some brands that just look better with one over the other? You are def. influenced by how they are normally shown (rolex on a bracelet) but there are some brands that have a more even split between the two.I only care for my rolex sports models on its bracelet, and I only care for a Panerai if it is on a leather band. For some reason Panerai and AP's to me just look perfect with the contrast between materials from being on a strap/band. I was contemplating getting the bracelet for my Diver, but am actually not in love with it. I realllllly like the bracelet, just as though I really liked the bracelet for a Panerai, but I think in general......AP's look better on a strap of sorts.Therefore...I am thinking of picking up a black hornback > bracelet.Thoughts? Anyone else have some generalized opinions on the subject?
Preowned AP in Chicago?
Need some help, will visit Chicago for 2 days so i have limited time for watchhunting. So where should i go, looking for preowned RO, ROO and Rolex?
Some Omega Speedmaster Advice?
Whats up everyone?Im trying to help a friend pick up a watch for the 1500-2500$ range. I told him the best brand name watch I can think of for that price is going to be a Omega Speedmaster. If anyone can think of a better watch feel free to tell me. Anyways, some questions I have are-What reference # speedmaster should I go for?-How much should I pay for that reference?-How reliable is it?-What must the watch come with? The watch must have a steel bracelet. No straps.I am a total noob when it comes to Omegas so please forgive my stupidity in this subject. Thanks everyone
