Initial Impression: Bulova 96A102 Commemorative Hack Watch
I was drawn to the Bulova 96A102 for a few reasons: It has a seconds subdial, it can be found reliably for under $100 and its looks, though military, are from a very different era and it stands out amongst the current crop of military inspired watches. Turns out that this watch is a reissue of the hack watch that Bulova made for the US armed forces during World War 2. For those who don't know, a hack watch is a mechanical watch where the seconds hand can be stopped for exact setting of time, which is very necessary for synchronizing soldiers. This reissue is a quartz movement, so the second stops as well, but it is technically not a hack movement. Regardless, the history of this watch adds authenticity to its design, and makes it a more interesting piece. So far, I find the watch to be a great purchase. It is well built, but on the lighter side, making it very comfortable to wear, especially in the warm weather. It measures 40 x 11mm with a lug width of 20mm, so it is a nice medium size
Introducing The Urwerk EMC: The First Mechanical Watch With Artifical Intelligence, Capable of Being Monitored And Regulated By Its Owner
In Urwerk's never-ending mission to produce some of the most interesting and genre-bending mechanical watches on the planet, we now present you with the EMC, or Electro Mechanical Control.? We showed you the movement to the EMC here back at Basel, but now the watch has been unveiled, and it's a doozy.? The EMC is "the world's first precision mechanical watch in which the timing can be monitored and adjusted by the user, on the fly - essentially? It's interactive. 2 OF 6 So what does this mean specifically? Well the watchmaker's best friend is a device called a Witschi, which listens to the rhythm of the balance and displays the performance of the movement, how much a movement gains or loses in 24 hours.? The EMC essentially has a Witschi built into it (electronic, though manually wound!) so that the wearer sees how his was his running.? And, the EMC offers the wearer to adjust the watch on the fly to keep chronometric performance at its peak. 3 OF 6 EMC feat
Anyone tried ABC watchwerk or alternative service center for your AP?
Hi, I want to service and refinish my RO, has anyone tried ABC watchwerk in Los Angeles before or other third party service center? I have tried ABC for my vintage Rolexes an they were great. I tried my Hong Kong AD for service quotation but the quotation took a long long long time (One year, because sent back to swiss) and quite expensive (over 4K usd), need to change some parts. I am wondering if there are any good alternatives competible or better than the AD Spa? Many thanks in advance.
Diver
Do you think AP will one day release a SS diver with ceramic bezel? That would be a hell of a watch, I am sure they thought about it but IMO they don't do it because it would make too much competition with their 44mm SS pieces with ceramic bezels which go for much more than the 42mm diver, with the ceramic bezel it would clearly blow away any other dive watches on the market, even without it's one of the best, but with it the diver would achieve perfection. After more than 2 days I am still in awe with the work, finish and perfection of AP ceramic, it's just incredible and next to it all other full ceramic pieces from other brands look like poorly finished, to my very limited knowledge no other brand does that amazing mix of brushed and polished ceramic, and the vertical lines is a definite plus, I'm sure the first models with satin finish are great but those lines just gives it a little something extra
