SIHH: Something (Really) Big From Panerai: Mare Nostrom 52mm Special Edition
Mare Nostrum is the chronograph that Officine Panerai supplied to the Italian Navy in 1943. Very few prototypes were produced C almost certainly three in total C of which first all trace, and then all relative documentation, was lost following the flood that hit Florence in 1966. Panerai’s discovery of one of the prototypes – now part of the collections at the Officine Panerai Museum in Florence – enabled creation of a new Mare Nostrum in a single edition of just 99 examples that reproduce the original almost exactly, with a few improvements. This new edition measures 52mm in diameter and, unlike the original, it offers a sapphire display back. The case is actually tonneau shaped, but looks round due to the wide, flat bezel. The watch is guaranteed watertight to 30 meters, consistent with the original, which was not intended for use under water.Like the original, this new Mare Nostrum uses a hand-wound mechanism: OP XXV caliber, deriving from a Minerva caliber from Pa
A. Lange & S?hne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater Watch
Every year, A. Lange & S?hne presents one mega important watch and this year's hero piece is arguably the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater. The original Zeitwerk watch was first released in 2009 and is today still the brand's?most unique?and distinctive piece. You see, most of A. Lange & S?hne watches, such as the Datograph, Saxonia, and Lange 1 are all arguably classically designed, and?the A. Lange & S?hne Zeitwerk is unusual because it displays the time digitally. The only thing traditional about it is its case design, with the subsidiary seconds dial and the power reserve indicator at 6 and 12 o'clock respectively. Even the movement, though decorated classically, is a tour de force in haute horology, featuring many innovations including a patented jumping hour mechanism.Since 2009, there have been many A. Lange & S?hne Zeitwerk models. And in 2011, A. Lange & S?hne followed up with the Zeitwerk Striking Time (hands-on here), which I believe was the company's first chimi
How many winds...
...do people recommend to give a Diver.I know the manual says 30 - but have read online people suggesting much less. Can it cause any damage or is the mechanism disengaged once fully wound?Cheers!
The OFFICIAL GMT Master and GMT Master II Owner's Thread
To my surprise, there does not appear to be a GMT Master or GMT Master II owner's thread. I did stumble upon a thread created for only the ceramic GMT Master II, but the question is why just limit that thread to ceramic models only? So I will take the pleasure of creating a thread for the watch that is arguably as popular as the Submariner (at least on this Forum). So to all owners of GMT Masters, past and present, let's see what you got! A couple of shots to get this thread off the ground. Sorry, no pun intended.
SS Watches Scarcity Just An Illusion
I have been gauging the market and it seems there are a lot of flippers that bought these watches to make money and are now having trouble selling them even at retail. Batmans going for maybe 500 over retail finding no buyers. D Blues for under retail in the same boat. The true market is the wearer market, and it seems to be well supplied. No one is desperate enough to pay over retail. Soon I expect to see these watches on display at ADs.I am sorry if this is not what some want to hear, I am just stating my true thoughts as I see them.
