HourTime Podcast Episode 3 - The Golden Hand
Episode three of the quickly evolving podcast how HourTime (starring myself and John Biggs) is now online. We discuss some winners of the watch industry version of the Oscars, the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve 2009. Winners included Richard Mille, Greubal Forsey, the Hublot Black Caviar $1 million watch, Audemars Piguet and A. Lange & Sohne. We also discuss the watch business - what groups own what brands, how well they are doing, and like that. Then, we say a few words about Panerai, and more about how accurate watch making was so protected and why - more fascinating military and historic talk, including how Swiss watches used to be junk, while the American watches were the best. More on that topic in the next show. We end by reminiscing about our first watches. This time we invite you to comment on HourTimeShowwatches-dealer, so listen to the show and then respond.Listen to HourTime episode 3 here.Download or stream directly here.
Scrutinizing Jumbo
Inspired by Ben's excellent review of the venerable RO jumbo, I too pulled out my recently purchased macro lens to take a few shot of my all-time favorite watch. All shots were taken handheld with available ambient light. Hope you enjoy these 'low-key' portraits. HAGWE DialDo you notice how the dial changes its shade of blue depending on the angle of viewing? Do you also notice the weaving lines criss-crossing on the tapisserie dial? They allow the dial to reflect light in a unique way. Every component of the movement was exquisitely finished in different styles at the highest level. The unique construction of the rail rotor system is a sight to behold. The 21k gold rotor plate is beautifully decorated with embossed wordings and alternate brushed and polished finishing. Mounted on a circular rail, this special construction allows the mo

I went to look at the Aqua Terra 8500 and instead walked out with this. But I do like the 8500 movement, guess I'll have to wait for the Planet Ocean one.
Not sure if I can post this, but...

Resellers & Grey Dealers
Just curious on how the TRF members feel about reselling. I am not talking about worn pieces; but rather currently offered Rolex models for sale from private individuals that were purchased for the exclusive purpose of reselling for a profit. Is the grey dealer any different than a private party doing the same thing (reselling)? Is reselling a new thing? Is it short lived? How do you see it affecting watch collecting as it used to be?I am newer to the forum so I am NOT trying to step on toes; just wondering how the members and/or collectors view this in the watch world.
