Gwyneth Paltrow Joins Baume & Mercier Family
Gwyneth Paltrow has joined Baume & Mercier as a friend of the brand. The new relationship kicks off with an exclusive cocktail party at SIHH in Geneva on January 17. The multi-talented Oscar-winning actress recently sang her way into the hearts of a new generation with her rendition of Cee-Lo's Forget You on Glee, and she made her live singing debut performing the title track from her movie Country Strong on the CMAs. Though Paltrow will not be lending her face to advertising campaigns, she will work with Baume & Mercier on various projects, most likely centering on the brand’s Hamptons line. Paltrow has a summer home in the tony resort town town for which the line is named.
My First!
Hello allI've been lurking for about a year now and chime in once in a while. After the countless hours I've spent looking through this forum and the pictures of everyone's watches I thought my first nice watch was going to be a Rolex, specifically a 116613lb. I visited several AD's throughout SoCal and Vegas and was in love with the 2-tone blue sub after trying on almost all the modern models. Fast forward....On Thursday I was in Newport again and dropped by Traditional Jewelers. They had the same 15400 black dial and I tried it on again. And I really didn't want to take it off. I tried on the 15400 and the 116613lb side by side and there was no comparison to me. The AP was just so much more refined and the finis

Wall Street Journal on trouble in Swiss watch industry
I thought yesterday's WSJ piece on the Swiss watch industry was fascinating. It's behind a paywall, but here are some excerpts (it's a long feature article in the Business & Finance section):GENEVAYou're 25 years old, bask-ing in the glow of your first big job pro-mo-tion and a hefty raise. Why not splurge on a big-ticket item?Your fa-ther might have bought a fancy Swiss watch. But the thought doesn't oc-cur to youfor most of your life, you've used your cell-phone to check the time. In-stead, you book a get-away to Costa Rica, which you doc-u-ment ex-ten-sively on In-sta-gram.Swiss watch-mak-ing ex-ec-u-tive Jean-Claude Biver wants to change that think-ing. From his perch at lux-ury con-glom-er-ate LVMH Mo?t Hen-nessy Louis Vuit-ton, the 68-year-old has seen younger gen-er-a-tions drift away from his cen-turies-old in-dus-try. He is on a mis-sion to get them in-ter-ested in watches, be-fore it's too late. It's the first time we have young peo-ple not buy-ing watches, says Mr. Bi
