Vacheron Constantin Mtiers dArt Savoirs Enlumins Watches With 'Illuminated' Dials
The Vacheron Constantin Mtiers d'Art Savoirs Enlumins Watches are raising the in-house bar for one of horology's most respected players. In the past, the Vacheron Constantin?Mtiers d'Art watches have impressed with their stunning visuals and their stubborn insistence on maintaining the craft skills of yore. Grand Feu enamel, precious gems, hand-engraving, and guilloche patterns?have illuminated dials that often stick in your mind's eye. When it comes to?illumination, however, it is the latest range from Vacheron Constantin that takes things to a new level. The?Vacheron Constantin Mtiers d'Art Savoirs Enlumins watches with "illuminated" dials take their design cues from the Aberdeen Beastiary C a 12th century text that contains a wide range of human knowledge and beliefs from the period.Effectively a device to represent an entire paragraph, an illumination in this sense is an image placed at the beginning of a body of text. Limes Klassik Cartouche Watch Available: Guilloche For The Masses
Everyone deserves a really nice classic watch. Actually, let me be more clear because "classic" is probably the most common term in the watch industry, that and "heritage." A classic (or "Klassik" for my Deutsche friends) watch in this sense refers to the vintage decorating on the watch using metal engraving machines. This practice is called guilloche, and probably best done by the Germans today. Benzinger being the master.Because this style of decoration is so "classic" in the watch world, I think every one should have at least one example of it. Such beauty is really hard to appreciate unless you are looking right at it, as it is a very visual type of splendor. Limes is unusual in the small watch making world for making their own cases, and some dials. That is one of the ways that they can keep costs down. Owned by Ickler, Limes is a thoroughly German brand with a well-priced and attractive line. One of their best watches from a style and value perspective is the Limes Klassik Cartouc

Inside The Manufacture: With Jaeger-LeCoultre In Switzerland, Pt. 3: Handcrafts And History
We've been taking a pretty up-close look at certain aspects of Jaeger-LeCoultre's manufactory in parts one and two of our coverage, in which we looked at the creation of the Atmos clock, as well as two historically important tourbillons C the first wristwatch and pocket watch tourbillons JLC ever made. Before going any further, let's take a quick step back and take a slightly bigger picture look at both the factory and at JLC's history. 1 OF 25 2 OF 25 Jaeger-LeCoultre is located in the village of Le Sentier, in the Valle de Joux, just northwest of Geneva. The Valle sits in a crevice in the Jura Mountains, which run more or less along the Swiss-French border and form a natural boundary between the two countries. It's not a very big area geographically, and yet, along with Geneva, the Valle and its 10 or so villages produce a disproportionate number of luxury watches. If you go a little further, you run into the larger towns of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle, whi
