Luxury Watch Industry's Dilemma In Hong Kong
Photo Credit: Jason FungAround the world, people are carefully watching news about the protests in Hong Kong. From the popular #OccupyHongKong hashtag and bloggers on the streets to the mainstream press, I think the world is curious to see how Beijing will handle the delicate political situation in China's strongest economic market. Something that is beginning to make itself clear is that the protests in Hong Kong related to free rule will hugely impact on the luxury watch industry, now and going forward.Let's put things into context. Hong Kong isn't just the "gateway to the Asian watch market," but is one of the world's most important places for the watch industry. In an article on this exact topic, John Revill at the Wall Street Journal reports that exports to Hong Kong alone represent between about 15-20% of the overall global sales at corporations such as the Swatch Group, LVMH, and Richemont. Incoming Speedmaster MKII Racing Dial
Just received this today after looking for one on & off for quite a while , I know it's a service replacement dial & the case has had a polish. But for the money paid I'm more than happy with it .I am in the office ,& can't check serial number until I remove the caseback later .
I got hungry
Sapphire sandwich...Aside from the 5517 Sub, the Speedmaster Pro (any version) is my favorite of all time.Around 11 years ago, I bought one used for around $1250 USD --and at the time, I didn't even consider it a great deal either! Now these retail for $5,500 US and easily around $3,000 used. Is it not comforting to know that despite the economic collapse and sky high unemployment, luxury items still continue to rise in price, huh?
Flipping my Patek..speak now or forever hold your peace
My Calatrava 5196R has been in the safe for about 355 days over the past year. I work in a very casual office & don't have much occasion to wear rose gold. I'm tempted to flip it for a Lange 1815 in white gold, that I know I'll wear several times a week & which also can do double duty as a dress watch.Does anyone care to argue for keeping the Patek?
