IWC Auctions Off Unique Muhammad Ali Watch at Celebrity Fight Night Gala
A unique timepiece by IWC Schaffhausen went under the hammer at the 18th annual Celebrity Fight Night gala last Saturday, held in Phoenix, Arizona. The star-studded event was established to raise funds for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, founded by the legendary boxing champ. The watch, a special Big Pilot’s model in white gold made to commemorate Ali’s 70th birthday, fetched $60,000. Click below to see photos from the event and wallpaper images of the watch. The Big Pilot’s Watch Edition Muhammad Ali is modeled on IWC’s historic Big Pilot’s Watch of 1940, with a matte-black dial, an arrowhead index at 12 o’clock, a large crown, power-reserve display at 3 o’clock, and bold, luminescent numerals and hands. Some say the trend toward ever-larger watches is slowing, but you would not know it to look at Hamilton's new 50mm Khaki BASE Jump watches. That's BASE as in parachuting off of Buildings, Antennas, Spans and Earth. Available in automatic and chronograph versions, we will focus on the latter as it presents an interesting twist (pun intended): the timing functions are activated by turning the bezel, not by pushing buttons. Twist the bezel counter-clockwise to start and stop, then clockwise to reset. The BASE Jump is powered by a modified version of ETA's 7750 movement, and we're told that the movement is exclusive to Hamilton. Good idea? Bad idea?
So...I currently have a BLNR and a larger type explorer 2 polar and my 40th birthday is fast approaching and as a result I'm going to have the makeweight funds to exchange my existing watches for a BLRO or a smurf in white gold...Alternatively I could keep my Batman and explorer....and have ��7500-8000 to spend on another watch, possibly a sub date or a vintage Pepsi thoughts?If I do part ex my existing watches for a WG sub or WG GMT then it will become my daily wearer!!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
