Am I missing the point of the ROO
Right its a chronograph, its sporty, its waterproof to 100m... so why do they put them on from the factory with a leather strap? Metal or rubber would be so much more suitable to the main purpose of these watches, no?
CK2998? Not!
Don't get me wrong. The 311.33.40.30.02.001 is a beautiful watch and I would not mind having one but the FOIS more closely resembles the original CK2998.Maybe Omega needed an excuse for another in the seemingly endless progression of Speedy LEs which allows them to use up some of the 39.7mm cases. My other criticism applies to the horrendous hobnail design of the case back which originated with the FOIS case back:The design of the pre-moon case back would have been more appropriate and much cleaner. It was a pre-moon back that I customized for my FOIS to commemorate Schirra's Sigma 7 Mercury flight:Again, I love the 311.33.40.30.02.001 but the purist in me had to get this off my chest.
Questions about polishing
One of my favorite Patek references is the 5124g Gondolo, however at $27.2k retail, and what they sell for pre-owned ($16-19k) it's not really a reference I would buy new. There is a used one listed by Govberg (Patek AD in Philly) on here listed as LNIB, but I was told a month or so ago by a sales associate that it has been polished and from 2008. I come from a purely Rolex collecting standpoint where polishing is highly undesired. Is that the same with Patek? Even if done by Stern I would be wary of polishing, especially on a case that is highly unique like this one. And is polished and from 2008 really LNIB?Link: .rolexforums/showthrea...ighlight=5124g
Report on my Patek 5205G...............
The first six weeks with my 5205G………This is the first review of a watch that I have ever done, so please bear with me, especially if the construction of it , is not quite in sync!As most of the regular members will know, and probably frustrated after, I have been in love with this piece, especially with the darker coloured (grey) dial from the moment that I first saw the photos that came out from Basel 2010. So much so that when I saw a dummy model at my AD the following month, I asked them to let me know, when the first one came in. In the meantime, not having the cash available for such a purchase, I went about doing some “Wheeling & Dealing” of my small collection, which included my FP Journe Black Label Calendrier, which to a degree I still very much regret selling. Long story short, I received a phone call from my AD back in September asking me if I was still keen on getting a 5205G? Yes was my reply, so after a small deposit had been placed and
Happy Holidays!!!
