Patek Philippe Wants To Like You; Finds It So Difficult
A few days ago I wrote about a new watch coming out of the house of Patek Philippe. Namely, the reference 5960P at about $80,000. A beautiful watch, but why all the hubbub for a timepiece that costs so much? For that money anything should be possible right? Well some people find themselves waiting around for such watches to come out, for others, we observe such watches with mere interest or strong desire. Regardless, Patek Philippe is serious about its product in America, at least on paper they are. The true message to Americans will be to appeal to our sense of value, taste, and preferred methods of purchasing luxury goods. In a recent InSync Watch Magazine interview, Patek Philippe's ruling father and son team shed some light on the mentality at work behind one of the world's most exclusive watch manufactures. Philippe Stern and his son Thierry, take charge at the helm of what is a "family" run business. This is no joke as big makers like Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet are actual
nice 5004 but the second prize is pretty special as well
Watch lovers meaning of fun = Patek, Perpetual Calendar, Split Seconds and Platinum.Had the pleasure of playing with a 5004P today. IMG_4463.jpgPretty spectacular though it is quite tall for its size. And the black dial seems to be the nicer of the two Arabic dials. The business end.IMG_4460.jpgUnfortunately I had to go back home with the one already on my wrist. FullSizeRender.jpgBe well.
5980 - thoughts / considerations / experiences
I am contemplating purchasing a Patek 5980 and have a number of questions that I would appreciate any input on:-Size - i know the watch is rather chunky, but can it still be worn on a day to day basis in a formal office environment or is it more of a watch to be worn during leisure time?In this context is the size similar to a submariner or a sea dweller?Dial colour - i am planning to go for the blue face which appears to be the favourite on this forum. Did anyone go for black over blue - if so why?Build quality - how easily do the polished centre links scratch and do people find this irritating or is this something that people get used to over time? Does the bezel also scratch very easily?Residuals - whilst i am buying this watch to wear and enjoy (and with the intention to own it forever) can anyone add input on residuals? Thanks
