Talking Watches Veteran And KISS Drummer Eric Singer Joins Jury For The 2015 Grand Prix d'Horlog
It's that time of the year again. The jury of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve – the world's most important horological awards – has been announced. Not only do we retain the illustrious Mr. Clymer, Goldberger, Dufour, Bacs, and more, but we also pick up a few new additions. The most notable of the new jury members is actually a HODINKEE alum – KISS drummer Eric Singer. In case you missed it, Mr. Singer sat for an episode of Talking Watches back in 2014 and it's clear the industry took note. You can see the entire video above and read about his collection here. We look forward to seeing the pre-selected timepieces for the 2015 GPHG later this year. You may view the entire list right here.
Send in for WR testing?
Would you guys be ok with a local watch guy do a WR test or would you send it in to AP? Have a 15202 that is not under warranty and dont mind getting going in the pool with it. How much is the ap WR test?
It's back!
Greetings TRF,It is with a lot of pride and joy that I tell you that I got my vintage Audemars Piguet back from my watchmaker tonight. When I bought it I was very happy until I realized that it had a small problem......Indeed, with its dial on top the balance wheel would slow down and eventually stop, thus making the watch impossible to wear for a full day. Normally I would have worked on it myself, I did service my Jaeger-Lecoultre and quite a few other watches of mine, however, after thinking about it I thought that it would be better to ask an experience watchmaker with a good reputation to service such a thin movement. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to do it myself and I do need to build up confidence but with such a caliber I figured it would be better to be safe than sorry...Now my pictures aren't very good as they're dark but believe me, the movement is much cleaner than it was when I got it (I was going to have it cleaned anyway but this small balance wheel problem made

Cold feet on putting the money on a SS. Do it anyway?
Hey guys.Just a quick update from hunting for a 5711. This was quicker than I had expected, and I have found a good friend's cousin that is looking to sell his almost brand new (bought under 2 months ago) 5711 blue dial.He is asking a fair $24,000USD, which is the price he bought it for. I don't expect a deal on this piece.I was really looking hard to find it, and now that I have, for some reason I am having cold feet putting that amount on a SS watch.A friend told me that the watch doesn't look nearly worth how much I am paying for, and that made me re-assess.Am I going to regret not buying this one though?I must say I do love the watch; Just can't help but think I could be getting some precious metal or so for that amount. Or even adding two more SS watches. My only other watch is a Rolex Sub btw. I think the duo with the Patek should be perfect still and cover all bases.Suggestions?
