WATCH WINNER REVIEW: Minus-8 Layer
We thank Michael K. for his pictures and watch winner review after being the lucky recipient of the Minus-8 Layer watch our October 2014 watch giveaway.? Don't forget to enter this month for a chance to win a Maurice Lacroix Pontos S dive watch here. The Minus-8 Layer is not a watch I would have normally picked, so I decided to use the generous opportunity provided by Mr. Ariel Adams, watches-dealer, and Ms. Natalia Daniel (a delightful woman with PCH/MINUS-8), to take a leap. I've been intrigued by blackout dials for some time, but always wondered about reading the things, and the Minus-8 Layer seemed to have an edge. When I set it in my watch box amongst the divers, retro Russians, and MIP-PRF roughnecks, I was reminded of a line from Mel Brooks' classic Blazing Saddles: What's a sophisticated urbanite like you doing in a place like this? It's sleek and retro/future in a cool Blade Runner sort of way. An obvious eye for detail and design went into this. It's got a solid if unpretenti
Seiko Astron GPS Watch Party At Arizona Fine Time
Seiko Astron Release PartySponsored Post written by AZ Fine Time's Joseph KirkAZFineTimewatches-dealer wants to invite anyone who will be in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area this Friday, Oct. 26th 2012 to a very special party from 2-8pm.? This party will be the launch of the new Seiko Astron GPS Solar, which is the world's 1st analog solar watch to receive signals from GPS Satellites (about 12,000 miles away) and actually update the watches accuracy, date, and adjust to whatever timezone you are in.? This will be a great opportunity to chat with Seiko about this new impressive timepiece. The technology Seiko has developed to make this watch work is pretty incredible.? It took over 10 years and 100 patents for this piece to be possible.? The watch uses a million piece grid of the world to identify all 39 timezones.? By pushing and holding the upper right button for 6 seconds with clear view of the sky, the watch will automatically adjust to whatever timezone in the world you are standing in.S
RedSea Six Pounder & Holystone Watches
Welcome to new dive watch brand RedSea. Another Fan-diver brand. Meaning a couple of people who love watches - dive watches - decided they wanted a diver in "their image." So Red Sea was born, and if your tastes are similar to theirs, have they got a watch for you. There are two models, but they are basically the same watch with two dials. The Six Pounder is easily the most avant garde of the two. With its BRM watch style hands - you have an interesting use of borrowed aesthetic for a dive watch. The rear of the watches have a pirate style skull and crossed swords engraving that pretty much makes everything it is applied to a bit more bad ass. Do modern pirates have flags anymore? I wonder. I don't think they have ships they are super proud of anymore...The real Red sea is one of the best places in the world for diving. The high salt, very clear water is home to a ton of tropical fish. Right underneath Israel, the warm waters are a hot spot for nature lovers who dive into the waters to
New to Me Vintage Omega
I found this while shopping around a little today in Tulsa OK between appointments. Has ingraving on the back for a 25 year service award from 1981. I am noticing that a lot of these watches are engraved on the back for a 25-30 year service award. This on has the original box and everything seem below. I did notice that the de ville on the dial is in script font versus block lettering. Can someone help shed a little bit of light on this piece and possibly a value of it? The bracelet is an original Omega leather strap with the gold Omega buckle. Also the Crystal is original as it has the Omega symbol in the center of the plexi.
Buying my first Rolex: Explorer I or Submariner
Hello everyone,I have been reading this forum for a while now, interested more in technical details than anything else, but this is my first post.I have been a watch enthusiast for many years, since I was a kid really, my first watch was a Casio F-91W, and also had Swatch, Seiko, Tissot, Hamilton, Alpina, Orient Star and Nomos along the years.I also would like to mention that I am not a watch collector, and recently decided to sell all my watches and become 'a 1 watch guy'. This watch I would like to be a Rolex, that can also be a family heirloom and pass is down to my son who is 3 years old at the moment. I am attracted to this brand because of its history, quality and reliability. This is where I would like to ask for your advice, I have narrowed it down to 2 models: the Explorer I and the Submariner 'no date'.Which of these two models would be longer lasting with normal wear? Also (this might be a silly question, sorry for this) why is the Explorer I considered a sports model when it
