Breguet Tourbillon Clock Installed at Carnegie Hall
On Wednesday evening, Breguet kicked off its new sponsorship of New York’s Carnegie Hall, starting with the 2012-2013 season, with a grand gesture: the unveiling of a specially crafted Breguet tourbillon clock in Carnegie Hall’s Morse Lobby.?The unveiling of the clock by Breguet U.S brand manager Michael Nelson, Carnegie Hall artistic director Clive Gillinson, and financier and Carnegie Hall board chairman Sandy Weill took place prior to the opening-night gala benefit concert, which featured the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and music director Riccardo Muti, along with the Chicago Children’s Choir and soloists Rosa Feola, Antonio Giovanni and Audun Iversen. Breguet, which also sponsored the opening night gala dinner after the performance, has now become the official “Exclusive Timepiece” of Carnegie Hall. The dinner was held in the Grand Ballroom of the nearby Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The clock, which is modeled on Breguet's original tourbillon timepiece des
Manufacture Royale Opera Time-Piece Watch
Beat me with a stick! I just had to plod through Manufacture Royale's nine page long bloody press release - only to have reasserted what they mention in the first few lines; that they are "unashamedly elitist." Wipe my brow and hand me an ol' timey hallucinogenic absinthe, because I need to lay back in a hammock on a steamship and read some Jules Verne to appreciate this steampunk mechanaut.Oh how right it would be for the good people behind the conception of this watch to redo their text and branding on the watch. It is a cool thing, and the overgrown child in my loves this oddity - but they really need to take it down a few notches. I kid you not: in a nutshell, the brand would have you believe that this watch not only sets the bar upon which all future watches must be judged, but also claims that according to the designer this watch release is one step closer to realizing a dream of utopia. Please calmly take an axe to my forehead - for I cannot believe this.Ok, let's get back to th
Baume & Mercier Classima Executives Magnum XXL Watch
This was one of the best new Baume & Mercier at SIHH 2010, and that really isn't saying much. The brand's return to "heritage" (wow, isn't that starting to sound REALLY cliche these days) has a release of "classic" looking watches. A term that is starting to get on my nerves these days. Like the watch industry is so confused as to what happened in the last 10 years they are just trying to erase is and start from scratch. The Classima Executives Magnum XXL is actually two watches - see my images from the show. Nothing wrong wit them, but they don't really excite me as much as Baume & Mercier would like for them too.See my Baume & Mercier Classima Executives Magnum XXL watch article on AskMenwatches-dealer here.See Baume & Mercier watches on eBay here.See Baume & Mercier watch on Amazon here. Would you make this trade for a Royal Oak?
Rolex DJ 2, blue dial, fluted bezel on oyster plus IWC Portuguese Chrono with blue hands and strap and white face, plus a little cash for an AP RO in silver (15400).
5711A or AP 15202 (blue dials) to pair with 5712A
I have a 5712A and love it so much that I am trying to add a 5711 (also blue dial). But lately, I am wondering whether the AP Royal Oak 15202ST would be better? Would love to know what you think, and posting this on the Patek forum intentionally as I love Patek and want to make sure the input is from others who do as well. And to be clear, I do not want a 5711 in a white dial, even though that may seem like the obvious choice. Some of my thoughts: The 15202 is more of a different experience than my 5712A compared to what the difference the 5711A would be, and I love the two hand look (but I also like being able to see the movement in action by way of a second hand). Also, as much as I like AP, I prefer Pateks (all things being equal).I am unlikely to sell either, so better resale value, while nice, isn’t a driving force. And obviously, I will be able to get the 15202 much sooner than the 5711, and it is a touch cheaper as well, when purchased new from an AD.All votes and replies a
