Watch Spotting: Ellen DeGeneres Wearing A Vintage Rolex Daytona 6265 While Interviewing President Obama
Everyone knows Ellen DeGeneres – the mononymously famous Ellen (yes, that is a real word, we didn't make it up) is one of the best known and best liked people not just on TV, but in show business in general, and like many of you, we remember her turn as an Academy Awards host with a lot of pleasure. Not that that's setting the bar very high for success, but, you know, still. 1 OF 1 Anyway, she recently interviewed President Barack Obama for a segment of the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and wouldn't you know it, on her wrist was a pretty great watch: a Rolex Daytona, reference 6265, in gold, looking to be from the 1970s. The above shot was taken during a commercial break and both parties look like they're enjoying themselves quite a bit. Ellen is rumored to have a pretty major interest in watches in general and collectible vintage Rolexes in particular. It's an interest she's kept out of the spotlight by and large, but you can only be so under the ra

Incoming: Royal Oak vs Daytona
Hi guysSome of you will remember that I put a collection strategy together a couple of years ago, and it's nearly complete. Today, another piece of the jigsaw arrived in the shape of the Royal Oak 15450.When choosing which Royal Oak to get, I spent a vast amount of time looking at size comparisons, and I'm glad to report I made the right choice! My wrists are 6.5 so not very big, so I was torn between 37mm and 39mm but the 37mm is perfect for me.As I really like the way the Daytona wears, I spent a lot of time looking for comparisons on the wrist between the Daytona and the 15450. So, I thought others may be in the same boat and it would be useful to share a couple of photos. The bottom line is that they both wear differently, but both work for me brilliantly, and people should forget the stigma attached to the 37mm!
Travel Watch
HelloI have been a proud Rolex wearer since the 1980s and now, thanks to some excellent advice on TRF, I have a collection growing in the way that I want. Having started out with divers, I now find that (still having a couple of divers) I have most use for timepieces with a dual-time function. Obviously, my GMT II and Exp II are central to this. I am fascinated by the new Sky Dweller, but am happy to watch this from the peripheries for the time being. Having said that, I want to add a new travel watch.........one that I will wear and use........and my preference would be for a Patek (I increasingly love wearing my 5127). I have a few straight questions that I am sure you will be able to help me with:My absolute grail (along, I suspect, with many of you) is the 5131. I see the sums they sell for but am certain that they must, somehow and somewhere, be available new at RRP. Is this just a fantasy? I expect it is, unfortunately.Given the likely impossibility of the above, the 5130 is the
