Movado Artists’ Series – Kenny Scharf Watches
Launched in 1987, The Movado Artists' Series was a natural evolution for a company whose watches are included in the collections of some of the world’s leading museums. The Artists' Series is composed of commissioned, limited edition timepieces designed by leading artists. Those who have created watches to date include Andy Warhol, Max Bill and James Rosenquist. Movado now introduces the newest Artists' Series entry C a suite of six colorful, whimsical dial designs by Brooklyn-based American artist Kenny Scharf. Scharf, who was born in Hollywood, California in 1958 and holds a B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York, has earned international recognition for his playful, topical, powerful paintings which push the line between pop culture and fine art. Acclaimed works by Kenny Scharf have been exhibited in prominent museums around the world, including the Whitney. Now Kenny Scharf brings six boldly graphic dial designs to the Movado Artists' Series. Glycine Incursore Black Jack Small Seconds: Great Looking Watch, Missed The Cards Playing Reference
I can always count on Glycine to present respectable looking watches. With a long history of pilot's watches, and some great diving watches (the Lagunare line), there is always an inherent "active" look to their watches. On top of that, Glycine is good about releasing new watches with regularity and this Basel World is no different. My choice from their new selection is the Glycine Incursore Black Jack Small Seconds. The Incursore line of watches all share similar faces and numbering. With a look a lot like Panerai, Glycine is not presenting a copy but its own interpretation of the theme. Glycine is a Swiss watch maker, not Italian like Panerai, but the name "Incursore" is Italian and comes from the military "Frogmen" that engaged frequently during World War II. Panerai watches were originally designed for the same purposes. That being high legibility in dark and wet conditions while being stealthy and solid. That is the purpose behind the large, well-spaced numerals and hour indicators
I joined the Speedy club
Hey All,Recently came across an Speedy Broad Arrow Re issue 1957 on a local vintage watch dealer, tried it in the store and instantly fall in love with it (did not bought it at the store as they were asking too much). Don't really understand why a SpeedMaster is not in my collection in my early days of becoming a WIS is beyond me..:-sPicked this one up from a trusted dealer here in TRF, thanks Mr.W!Now I truly understand the allure of the SpeedMaster; classic design, rich history, iconic watch! It is hard to resist this beautiful timepiece from Omega!Enough talk..here are some pics, not great ones as I took them in the office with the Iphone and some photoshop tweaks. And yes..I have realized this Speedy should be 3594.50..not what it is on the electronic bean counter..silly me
Chandigarh AD in India / Stock levels...
Visited the AD in Chandigarh earlier today. They had a total of 6 DJs in the display and 1 in the window! That’s it! The staff was embarrassed on what they had for sale.I was not able to understand their pricing. I could not work out how they add a premium to the retail price and by how much.I suspect once a reference comes in, they contact interested customers and the one who offers the most gets it?! I know it sounds unbelievable.Anyways a couple of pics...IMG_0337.JPGSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
One leads to another?
The last several years I've been on a steady diet of about 1 new watch per year. But every time I get a new watch, it immediately fuels an intense desire for another. I just got a DD40 in platinum, and I absolutely adore it. You'd think I wouldn't need or want another (at least for a while). But the reality is that I'm obsessed with the 116519LN. Am I crazy? Does anyone else experience this?
