Baselworld 2016: A Quick Look At The Slightly Overlooked Patek Philippe 5204R
The 5204R is a split seconds (rattrapante) chronograph with perpetual calendary; a combination of complications that puts it just one chiming complication away from being a bona fide grand complication watch (traditionally the term "grand complication" meant the combination of a rattrapante chronograph, a minute repeater, and a perpetual calendar). The 5204R is the red-gold version of the original, platinum 5204, which was introduced in 2012; that watch was, in turn, the successor to the reference 5004 perpetual calendar rattrapante, which was introduced in 1996 and which Patek made only in very small numbers every year (the last 50 were made in stainless steel, priced at CHF 270,000, and sold out basically immediately, as we reported here). 1 OF 6 As we've said, the great thing about the 5204R is that it's a reminder of why Patek enjoys the reputation that it does – but why does it do that? I think it has a lot do do with, of course, the classicis
Watch Photos Part 6
Thought I'd post photos of the Omega Aqua Terra 2012 Olympic Special Edition. I purchased this a few months ago on a spur of the moment thing, I never really looked at this watch until my AD showed it to me (when I went to cancel my outstanding Speedy order) then I saw its truely amazing dial and had to have it. Some of you may have seen this set of pics already. Sorry if you have. Alan
5146 question
I have seen pictures of the chevron tang buckle (Henri Stern) and the big Patek logo buckle on the deployant clasp. Which one does the 5146 come with ? Did they change it thruout the model years ?
Panerai Design of Time Workshop in London
What a great morning this past Sunday. I was able to attend the Panerai Design of Time Exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum....which which was actually a Hands-On Workshop around watchmaking. There was a table set-up with maybe 12 stations with either a P.999 or P.3000 movement to play with. It was only a 45 minute workshop, but it was a very special treat to be able to participate. There was even a table showing a running Tourbillon movement. s606.photobucket/user/msz...85a70.mp4.html
Why are platinum watches more expensive than good ones???
So platona is my grail and it really shocks me the price difference between platinum and gold watches!!!If you take it economically, platinum is cheaper than gold ($1006 vs $1350 per Troy once)If you take it chemically (which also reflects ease of manufacturing different metals) gold is a heavier metal (atomic weight 79 while platinum is 78) which means they are about as equally hard/easy to manufacture. If anything gold is harder being the heavier metal!!As far as rarity, gold is in more demand, hence the more expensive metal!!!Sooooooooooo why on earth are platinum watches more expensive than gold ones?!!! Other than THAT’S WHAT ROLEX WANTS!
