Harry Winston Midnight GMT Tourbillon Only Watch 2011
You can't buy it. Well technically you can, but you need to fly to Monaco in September and bid really high. This is Harry Winston's entry into the Only Watch 2011 charity auction that I keep profiling when new entries are released. Harry Winston's offering is this Midnight GMT Tourbillon (ref. 450/MATTZ45PL.A). The reason I am giving it extra attention is due to the way I feel it encapsulates much of what the modern Harry Winston watch brand is trying to be - and there will be just one piece. The movement inside of the watch is not new. It comes from an existing GMT Tourbillon watch in the Ocean, not Midnight collection. It may have been used in other HW pieces before. Though I do like its execution on this watch better. The automatic movement has a large power reserve of 110 hours and features a dial exposed tourbillon, off-centered time display, and a word-time function. The second timezone is first selected with the reference city being show in a small window at about 11 o'clock, and

Spontaneous Hulk buy and possible temporary regret.
So, let me start by saying the hulk was on my eventual shopping list. I had every intention of buying a dd36 (champagne with sticks) this year. This past week I was given the opportunity to get a hulk from my ad, so I jumped on it. I'm not going to lie, I knew I eventually wanted one, and got caught up in the hype of limited supply and it being discontinued, and all the other stuff I know I should not let swing my decision. The punchline is, I'm not going to be able to afford the dd36 this year. Now that the dust is settled I'm a little disappointed I have to wait at least another year to be ready for the DD. The hulk is awesome, but I was zeroed in on getting my grail. I know this is probably one those quit your crying moments, but I'd be curious what others would do. Do I dump the hulk and get the DD now, or enjoy the hulk and wait another 12-18 months for the DD (that is of course if life doesn't get in the way)Thanks for listening to me vent about this non-problem. Wasn't really a DJ guy until I saw this watch (116234), anyone wear one as a daily?
Since becoming a Rolex fan, my interests have mainly been with the SS sports models (14060, 16710, and now BLNR). It's not that I disliked the DJ's, just wasn't drawn to them the way I was with the Subs and GMTs. But I stumbled across this old Hodinkee article reviewing the 116234. The particular combination chosen by Hodinkee here is stunning -- champagne dial, fluted bezel, Oyster bracelet. Does anyone here have this watch? How about wearing it as a daily?Link to article
Four cornered Rolex
Being the Golf player and bigger PGA tour fan that I am, I have seen Phil Mickelson Fri and today(haven't seen footage or pics of The first round) wearing a rectangular/ four cornered watch. It was pretty easy to see on zfridays round as he didn't get any coverage today on the back nine. I have followed Phil for years and know he wears whatever model on a strap opposed to bracelet. I have always thought that some if not most of his playing watches were the Cellini line. Just curious, anyone else notice this? The Motherships website has no such watches in the lineup.Thx for reading
