Hands-On: The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar With Black Dial, New For 2016
You know what, sometimes the best of SIHH doesn't have to be brand new. Case in point, this Jaeger-LeCoultre perpetual calendar, which was shown in 2013 for the first time, is back, and back in black. This is the watch that set the world on fire by being an integrated perpetual calendar – which, of course, is a true high complication – but housed in steel, and costing a mere $20,000. It's very much the same watch, but with a new black dial, it takes on a whole new look. 1 OF 3 We have the same 39 mm case, the same self-winding manufacture JLC movement, the same clever display that includes both moon phase and full year – just in black. The black dial set against the high-polished hands is really striking, and I could see this watch worn on a cool calf strap to dress it down. 2 OF 3 ADVERTISEMENT As I mentioned when this watch came out, I love nothing more than seeing true high end watchmaking in steel ca
Grinding noise when I wind my SM300
I just purchased a 1969 SM300 that was supposedly recently serviced. I notice friction when winding the watch and hear a light scrapping sound while winding. I have more modern Omegas and never noticed this issue. None of my automatic vintage watches have the same drag effect when winding them.I would appreciate your thoughts...James
Bracelets- adjust yourself or AD?
Hi guys-Curious if most of you guys adjust yourself or have AD do it, particularly on watches that can scratch easily like nautilus? When I bought 5167 a few years ago, the ad put two small scratches on side of case while adjusting. I presume for this reason some of you like to do yourselves? And If you're buying from out of state AD you must be adjusting on your own...?
My New Patek 5990 Flaw...
With all the stories lately about ridiculously long service times from patek and inconsistencies with new watches from the factory, I guess you guys can add another to the list.. Was admiring the movement of my 5990 nautilus yesterday and I noticed a little hair fiber inside the movement. Please see the pic below.. this is really the last thing I care to deal with at the moment, but if I don't send it in for service, the fiber could fall into the movement and get caught in a gear, only to cause further problems. Not impressed at all with patek at the moment. red circle around the fiber.
Rolex SS Skydweller
So one of my ADs has a 326933 they got in today and I can buy it. Its the black face.I'm first on the list for a blue face at another AD and thats the one I really want (think I will get that in January). So should I buy the black face? Think anyone would trade me a 116500 for it?
