My First Grail Watch: Bruno Grande Of JeanRichard
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch". In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with a gentleman who got his start managing the official timekeepers at all manner of sporting events, and today finds himself the COO at JEANRICHARD, living in the heart of Swiss watch country. Please welcome Bruno Grande. ?You'll find that his first grail is a watch we're all quite familiar with - and one you may even have in your own collection.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Bruno Grande (BG): I am a Swiss and Italian citizen. I love sports, I am married with two kids and live in a small village between Geneva and Lausanne. I started my relationship with the watch industry while as a student. Bring a Loupe: Five Reasons Why Spending $5,000 On This Tudor 'Monte Carlo' Would Be A Terrible Idea
The Tudor "Monte Carlo" is undoubtedly a very cool looking chronograph, with a funky color scheme that you would not have expected from Manufacture Rolex – also the owner of Tudor. The successive iterations of the Oysterdate Chronograph – its less poetic technical name – are therefore highly sought after, but you should run away from one example that you can currently find for quite cheap on ebay. It is conspicuously wrong, in many ways. Let’s now play Spot The Differences between this Monte Carlo and some correct examples. An Incorrect Red Hand 1 OF 132 OF 13 A quick and easy thing to spot first is that the chronograph seconds hand seen on the ebay example – on the left here – simply does not fit aesthetically. Part of the charm of the Monte Carlo line comes from the many touches of orange, including this hand, which in the one offered on ebay is too short and too red. It is of course orange for the Monte Carlo seen at
New pickup! 26470OR w/ Leather Strap
Finally pick this over the full rose gold one. Been very undecided between the two. The Pounder is really nice but it's just too much and too heavy. Very happy with this one, got the short strap right away at the shop as well
Building a collection...
Have a Datejust 116200 that I've worn for years, been wanting to add to it and now finally have the itch...Thinking the 26320 RG black strap, though the white pulls at me too... If you were putting 35-40k or so into 3 watches with the 26320 as the foundation, where do you go?
Thinking of taking the Panerai plunge!
I am very much a Rolex addict with a sideline in Omega's. Panerai had never really entered into my consciousness except as a brand that Rolex supplied movements to many years ago.Now all that has changed. Looking around my AD the other evening I stumbled into the Panerai display case and was immediately smitten by a black Luminor Marina 8 day model. But it looked so big on my 6.5 wrist I just wasn't sure. The salesman of course said it looked fantastic Anyway, I thought I should do some research before deciding whether or not to buy one of these intriguing watches. It doesn't help one's research when the watch world is divided between lovers and haters of the brand with no one taking a neutral position. Something about this brand polarises opinion. My research has led me to favouring 2 Luminor models - the base and the Luminor Base 8 days. I feel I now prefer the clean dial look of these over the Marina with its seconds hand at 9. I think I'm going to go for the 8 day model - I like t
