Watch Curmudgeon: How Little Did You Pay For That Watch?
What do you think a gorgeous watch should cost that's meticulously crafted, and features a fine ETA automatic movement, a thick, domed sapphire crystal, state-of-the-art lume, a superb strap or bracelet, and many more amenities? $5,000? $4,000? $3,000.? $2,000.? Hold that thought. Now, what do you think when you see a watch on worn&wound that has all the above going for it but only costs about 500 bucks? Impossible? Mistake? Piece of junk? Drunk editor? Typo? Probably made in a leper colony in Outer Mongolia? All the above?Well, if you're a regular reader of this blog, you know damn well what $500 will get you: a damn incredible watch! But did you ever wonder how that's possible? Or if serious watch makers offering those deals are making any money? red dot behind omega normal?
hi, there is a red dot near the case:see image. is this normal?
Should this defect be a 'no deal'? Or no big deal! ?
I have been searching for this watch for months. I decided I wanted it right when Omega discontinued it. :(Problem is, the listing says 88% good, 'lume flake on the dial'.Is this going to really be a big deal being able to read the time?I was so impatient waiting to find this watch, I did buy the 36mm but I don't LOVE it. And even though I love the lume, it doesn't say bright very long and I don't look at it much. I mostly just check the time in the daylight. And I want it for daily wear and perfection and future value in this used watch isn't all that important to me. Size and comfort and the ability to read the time well is more important.Got any photos of 'lume flake'?.ebay/itm/130590211275...ht_8464wt_1034Suzy
Here is the new Speedy Triple Date 3523.30.
Just picked it up today at lunch from the PO and the timepiece is just almost perfect! 97% TZ rating on this one. Not hardly even any desk diving blemishes. This one will make a nice second Omega for my collection.Enjoy the photos:
