My First Grail Watch: Rudy Chavez Of Baume & Mercier
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with Rudy Chavez, president of the North American arm of Baume & Mercier. Read on to learn what model from the B&M catalog eludes him even to this day.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Rudy Chavez: My name is Rudy Chavez and I am the President of Baume & Mercier, North America.ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?Rudy Chavez: I had just started college and was working part-time in a jewelry store in New Jersey. It was there that I learned the jewelry and watch business, and over time, developed a strong affinity to timepieces. The best part of the job was being able to share in the special moments of our clients, and to assist them in selecting the perfect timepiece for themselves or their loved one.A
3120 Calibre Rotor Change
Hi Guys,So I've noticed a change in the rotor on the 3120 calibre on the current models. It appears that AP have reduced the amount of material/gold being used by cutting away at the underside. You can make out the profile from the two pictures below. The first picture is the older version and the second picture is the newer version. When I first noticed this 'new' rotor on my watch I was disappointed, since I like the profile and fullness of the old rotor. I know you can't really see it but from all the pictures I saw on the internet and pinterest the images were of the old rotor which just looked nice since its profile followed that of the movement beneath (3rd pic). So prices go up and they use less gold to save more, which is the only reason I can see. Would there be any other benefit for the new style of rotor? Less resistance? Anyway, it's just an observation I noticed and I didn't find any info on the forum or internet so thought I'd see if any of you guys had noticed.RegardsM.
Advice: Purchasing my first AP
So I have zero background in APs, as I have always been a Rolex / Panerai owner for a while. I have been looking very closely at a AP Survivor being sold at watchuwant - I just love the aesthetics of the watch in every way. My wife says it looks like a casio g shock and thats what I want, something that can be easily confused for a 99$ watch by some and recognized as a amazing watch by a few. I realize this is about post is extremely general and I hope you excuse me for my ignorance. I have parsed through several topics but I just wanted the more experienced AP ROO guys and if possible guys that own the Survivor to give me some of their thoughts and opinions relative to comfort as a daily watch, resistance to damage, scratching of the coating, resale, or anything else that would be relevant to understand before I swipe a credit card. Once again apologies for topic that is as deep as it is wide. I have looked through the stickies and read several posts in TRF about AP and ROOs but not
DeVille info
After doing a fair bit of searching on this forum, I have not found much information on this particular Omega De Ville watch. It belongs to my grandfather and it eventually will be mine. All I know is that it was purchased some time in the 1970's and is 18K gold. The original strap was replaced due to wear and tear.If anyone can shed some light on this particular model of watch, it would be greatly appreciated.
Tudor investment
