Introducing The Modillian Bluetooth Smart Watch Strap Buckle
The Modillian is the first "smart strap" for watches and aims to bridge the gap between traditional timepieces and the emerging smartwatch industry. If you've been following watches-dealer's coverage of smartwatches, then you know we typically bring up a very important question. That being, at what point we will see a smartwatch so appealing that it forces us to take off our high-end mechanical watches and put on what is essentially a wearable communication gadget? With the Modillian, many people will perhaps get to enjoy both. What is the Modillian? Essentially it is a replacement ardillon buckle (the term for the basic pin and loop style buckle most watch straps have) for watch straps that has a Bluetooth connection and vibrates in order to alert the wearer to notification such as incoming calls, missed calls, and new messages. Modillian was created by two engineers in Israel who love the promise of smartwatches, but are also serious mechanical watch guys. For them, the Modillian is a
Scuderia Ferrari One Watch By Cabestan
The big news this week in the watch world was the big deal between Ferrari and high-end watch maker Cabestan along with its designer Jean-Francois Ruchonnet. Cabestan is to make a limited edition collection of very high-end Ferrari branded watches. I briefly discussed the Ferrari / Cabestan watch deal here on Luxist. This comes just a few months after Ferrari officially broke ties with Panerai, who was previously given a license to make Ferrari branded watches. I discussed the termination of the Panerai/Ferrari relationship here. Panerai was making watches priced comparable to other Panerai watches in the $10,000 range (give or take several thousand) for most of the Ferrari watches. The Panerai name wasn't even on the dial. The watches were a market failure - bigger than you'd think when it came to the popular Ferrari name. Now, after the ink is about dry on all the termination documents with Panerai, Ferrari has chosen a new partner with Swiss brand Cabestan. Seen here is an image of

Go for it? A 5711 blue dial, recently overhauled by PP
I got hooked on the 5711, and the one I am considering is from 2006, but recently overhauled/polished by PP 2 months ago. It's 9 years old with the screws bracelet. Has complete papers, with overhaul statement. Even the mail-in paper to register it with PP. The recent overhaul is a big plus factor, I think.I was wondering if there would be any benefits to wait and try to find a newer one? At first, I couldn't believe why anyone would want this rather plain-looking VERY EXPENSIVE SS watch. I had never even held one, so went to see what it was all about. The funny part is that the 5711 was covered in plastic wrap, so when I first looked at it, I decided it was too dull and underwhelming. Nothing spoke to me. My friend with me also agreed it was just dull. Then the dealer took off the wrap, and I could hear opera, you know, arias streaming from the blue dial. It was like magic, the twinkling of the indexes. That's all it took, and I got hooked. My friend changed his opinion 180 degrees, a
