Review: Techn Sparrowhawk II
The Techn Sparrowhawk II stands out in the inexpensive chronograph market. It is a well-executed aviator with sharp styling, great build quality and the added perk of an interesting movement at its heart. At $269 one does not usually expect something unique, but Techn manages to pull it off. The aviator market is fairly saturated, with offerings from brands across the price spectrum, from Timex to Steinhart to Bell & Ross. It's a look that does not change very much from brand to brand, but the Sparrowhawk II achieves something refined, that is clearly an aviator, yet not derivative. ?Combine this with the Meca-Quartz chronograph within and you can begin to see how the Sparrowhawk II is more that just an affordable watch, it's genuinely innovative.Case: PVD Coated 316L Surgical Stainless SteelMovement: Seiko VK63 Meca-Quartz ChronographDial: Black w/ Off-White indexesLens: Mineral w/ AR coatingCase Back: ScrewdownStrap: Khaki CanvasWater Res.: 100mDimensions: 41.5mmThickness: 11.7
Pairs Well With: Damasko DA36 Black
Earlier this week we reviewed the Damasko DA36 black, a wonderful modern take on the classic German flieger. As we noted in our review, the DA36 black is not just a watch. It is a fantastic piece of engineering with a whole lot of practical tech built into it. From the ice-hardened proprietary steel to the patented crown design, each added component is intended to benefit the user, and not for the brand to tout in some marketing campaign that's all glitz and no substance.Today's "Pairs Well With" pulls inspiration from Damasko's design and engineering philosophy, with a special focus on utilitarian clothing that can still be worn to the office. Whether it's the way the garment was assembled or the materials used, each piece chosen goes the extra mile in terms of performance, comfort, and function. That they look good is just icing on the cake.Alpha Industries L-2B Skyray JacketAlpha Industries began its life as a contractor to the United States armed forces, manufacturing heard-wearing
Is this 2531.80 real?
Hey all,This will be my first luxury watch (other than my grandfather's Rolex which goes out to Vanessa tomorrow for restoration! So excited!) and I've always wanted a 2531.80. Just wanted to run it by you experienced guys/gals to tell me if it is okay, since I am buying from a private seller that I will not meet in person. So, couple quick questions. 1. Does this appear real?2. What would a fair price be to you guys for a 2531.80 in this condition?3. How much does it typically cost to service a watch like this, and how often does it needed!Thank you all so much!
5711A vs 5712A (if you could only have one, which one?)
Now that BOTH the 5711A and 5712A are reselling well-above retail prices and are both nearly impossible to get new, I thought it would be fun to re-run this poll.If you could only have one, which one would you want?
Three days in...
And my first incoming of 2018 is here...Happy New Year TRF! Last week I made an appointment to have my last purchase appraised and needless to say that I felt like a kid in a candy store with a number of cases filled with watches. I spotted something that I liked, asked to try it on and was amazed since I had never seen one in person before. I wasn't planning on purchasing another watch anytime soon since I wanted to get my first PM Rolex later this year. Spent a week thinking about the watch, debating whether to get it or not. I called up earlier today to see if it was still available and it was..so here it is..My 5 digit trifecta...A special thank you to TRF's biggest enabler PLNYC
