Alpina’s Alpiner 4 Collection: Six Affordable Swiss Sports Watches
In 1938, Alpina launched the original “Alpina 4,” which the brand claimed was the “first modern Swiss sports watch.” That vintage timepiece was the inspiration for the sporty Alpiner 4 collection, released by Alpina in 2014, which includes a chronograph and a GMT watch, both powered by automatic Swiss mechanical movements and priced well under $5,000.The original Alpina 4 received its numerical name from the concept behind it: it was designed to combine the four features that Alpina founder Gottlieb Hauser considered essential for any sports watch to be called a sports watch antimagnetic properties, shock-resistance, water-resistance, and a case made of stainless steel. The 1938 watch was meant as a timekeeper that could withstand anything that the Alpine sporting environment could throw at it mountain climbing, lake diving, et cetera. That spirit lives on in the new Alpiner 4 watches, each of which is equipped with modern versions of the four basics. Nivrel Sea Series Diving Watch Makes Sense For Any Collection: Coming in Red, Yellow, And Blue Trim
It is my firm conviction that each watch collection must have at least one classic diving watch. I am not just talking about a timepiece with a 100 meter or more water resistance, I am talking about that look, with the three link metal bracelet, rotating bezel, and large and bright hour indicator dial. In other words, a Rolex Submariner 'homage' watch. It is ok, there are few watches that deserve such an homage, the classic Rolex diving watch is one of them. Otherwise, if you don't have a watch of this ilk in your possession, you aren't only going to feel left out, but you'll be missing out on a phenomenon of watch ownership where one style of watch, really seems to fit perfectly in every occasion and for all purposes. To satisfy that end, you have literally hundreds of options, within a range of style, quality, and function. On the low end are $50 Casio watches that to an extent give you a taste of the look. On the high end are fine watch makers like Blancpain who can put even Rolex's
How can I get hold of one of the NYC rubber bracelets?
I've just seen a photo of someone's rubber bracelet from the NYC event recently. Silly thing to want but very fitting as I'm buying an Aquanaut and would love to have a band/bracelet to match :-)Is there any possibility of finding one of these somewhere?
PP 5167A Comfortability
I'm thinking about getting my first PP. Being a sports watch enthusiast, I have my eye on the 5167A. Is fold-over clasp comfortable? I've had many fold-over/deployant clasps that were quite uncomfortable (sharp edges, odd shaped, etc.). How about the tropical composite strap comfortability? How does the 5167A fit a thin 6.75 wrist?
5711 or 5110p or 5130p - which one would you get?
My blue 5711 is delayed. Told by AD supposed to arrive this month but has been pushed back to next shipment whichever date that is.Probably not a fair comparison price wise but the 5110p in the other (mps354) thread looks really beautiful and the 5110p and 5130p is more readily available (used & new) which got me thinking hmmm.If price is not a factor which one would you choose and why? The watch is going to be used daily in mainly smart casual settings (no sports).
