Patek RG discoloration
I'm not sure whether this has ever come up before. My wife owns a ladys 33mm RG Nautilus, say about 5yr old or so, and she wears it as her daily. It has a bunch of microscratches/deskdive scratches and all, but no major dings of any sort. I started to realize one day that it started to look quite YGish, and needless to say when I compare it to new RG Nautilus it is quite yellowish. Now according to the AD, they said its quite normal as the copper mixed in with the RG oxidizes over time changing the hue/color. They claim that a light polish during service should bring the original color back, but I'm one of those against polishing unless really necessary. Does anyone know this for a fact?I have never seen this with Rolex's everrose gold, and I have not owned a Patek RG piece long enough to experience this and at the same time I take good care of my watches. I'm wondering whether having more scratches will expose the RG to more discoloration/oxidation???
5980/1A on band?
Love the 5980R, however I am afraid the RG isn't suitable to wear daily for work. Thus the alternative leaves me with the SS 5980 however that is only available on bracelet and I much prefer the leather band. I presume that I can swap a leather band for the bracelet (like on the 5726). Does anyone have pictures of the 5980/1A on band?If possible, would I then just order the new band and deployment from an AD or is there a better route to go? Have to imagine the band and deployment won't be cheap. Thanks in advance!
Annual calendar enters October...
Yesterday was then end of my first 30-day month with the Nautilus Annual Calendar. I was both curious to see the gears grind away and also wondered if an old dog (me) could learn a new trick - make a time-lapse video of the event. I'm fascinated with time-lapse but don't have the right software tools so I resorted to the manual crowbar method...At 11:40 I found that the watch had already staged Sep 31st ;) in prep for the big 10/1. It took until 1 am for the date wheel to get perfectly aligned and I had lost patience at 12:45. Day of week clicked right in at 11:59. OK, well, whatever...The video is small and a bit jerky from embedding here and is better viewed on Youtube and even better yet on my machine. It's a bit crude but the soundtrack softens the blow (Lucky Thompson, anyone?).If I ever do this again (not likely) I'm gonna reset the watch and do it during the day!
Does anyone have a DJ2 AND a DJ41?
Preference?
Want to buy this, any input?
Hi,I found the forum after searching for information about a 1987/88 Rolex Datejust 16233 I want to buy. There are really a lot of great information here!I am asking of you opinion on this watch:Reference 16233, serial number R87665XBracelet: ref 62523 H18Age code: M10 (oktober 1988)End link: ref 455BIt is sold for about 3600 USD, without papers or box. Is has a bump on the saphire, but I'm taking it to service if I'm buying it.I hope you guys have any opinion on the originality and matching of the bracelet and the head. My current research shows that they match. Do you think it is a good buy?-N
