It is funny how things develop as time goes on. So many watch I write about are dedicated to something young men would have been into in the 1960s and 1970s. Now watch makers are starting to more and more direct their attention on things that had more of an effect on me, such as science fiction and video games.Romain Jerome has just penned a character licensing deal with Taito - publisher of the arcade shooter game Space Invaders that was popular in the early 1980s. RJ's Moon Invader line of watches has a small Space Invader character on the back of the watch. It seems now that RJ has the rights to use more of these sprites, and I anticipate an interesting future for the Moon Invader collection with more video game tie-ins. What will that look like? ROO vs Aquanaut
As my daily watch I currently have a Steel AP Royal Oak Offshore which I am looking to 'trade in' for something a little more fancy, I want a bit of rose gold in my daily watch!The obvious upgrade would be a 44mm rose gold Offshore, but I think it is just a little too much, though I absolutely love how it looks on it's own, not sure when I wear it...That leaves me looking today at the PP store and admiring the Rose Gold Aquanaut, 5164R.Whilst the ROO 44mm and 5164R are very different in style, I have somehow narrowed it down to these two! They both have rubber straps, rose gold, useful complications and are just beautiful watches. The PP is a slimmer design, so less likely to get knocked than the bulky ROO, but has a more easily scratched rose gold bezel, compared to the ROO's ceramic.The price of both is similar as I plan on buying brand new from my local AD, neither brand would offer discounts on list price.Any thoughts on either of these watches - particularly as a daily watch? Patek & Rolex Conundrum ...
I can't tell if something is wrong with me or if this is normal. I own a few Pateks including the 5167 and 5296. I've owned several Rolexes over the past few years including Datejust, Sub, Yachtmaster and sold them all due to size, thickness and comfort issues with the bracelet. I now have an opportunity to pickup a Daytona but afraid I won't like it as well and not looking forward to losing money on a flip. Has anyone else been in the position of never warming up to Rolex and only wanting to wear Patek ? I feel I should own at least one Rolex !? What gives ??
