Collecting The First Swiss Quartz Movement: 5 Beta-21 Watches To Look For
If you haven’t noticed, it’s quartz week here at HODINKEE. Earlier this week our resident watchmaker, Aaron, wrote about the Girard Perregaux caliber 350, and Jack wrote about the Grand Seiko Quartz SGBX061. But what about other collectible “quartz” watches, like the Beta 21 movement, on the market today? The history of quartz is a complex and lengthy one, so I will try keep it short and sweet. Quartz was invented in 1928 by Bell Labs, and due to the sheer size of early quartz clocks, were mostly restricted to use in labs as reference timekeepers. Quartz experimentation continued through the decades and by the early 1960s quartz movements had been miniaturized enough to allow for them to be used in marine chronometers. It was at this time, that the major Swiss watch brands caught wind of this new technology and approximately 20 maisons (including Omega, Piaget, and Patek Philippe) created the Centre Electronique Horloger (CEH) in 1962 in Neuchâtel
Given the opportunity... wich of the two?
Hi guys. Curios what everyone thinks of this. Given the opportunity... which of the two would you pick and why?
Oh no, I didn't...
just pull the trigger on yet another AP! Well, this is a special one in many people's hearts whether they are fortunate enough to own it or not... Can you guess? I'll give you a few hints:1) came out awhile back2) sickest AP ROO with an elegant yet stylish design and I think no ROO has been able to top it YET... (My own humble opinion of course)3) they are somewhat of a rare commodity these days!pictures to follow once I receive it... What a month it has been for me in terms of AP love! I think I'm done with AP collecting! =p
GILT and this Patek
I often see watches on these sites and this is somewhat awkward to see something priced this high on one of these sites but hey seems like someone will drop 73k off their app.
Rolex Datejust II
Hi guys.I recently bought a Rolex Datejust II off the market. I have had a few Rolexes in the past and am pretty sure its a genuine model. I just have one doubt, the number on the machine inside is marked #3156.As per my knowledge #3156 is for the Day Datejust II models. And #3136 should be for the Datejust II.Can anyone please tell me if this is true, or did they make some exception and made Datejust II with the #3156 machine.Thank you for the help guys.Cheers.
