BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends September 13th
September began with Samsung announcing its new Galaxy Gear smartwatch, we share our thoughts on the Gear as well as those of Om Malik, an experienced tech journalist. We check out a couple of new watches from Ulysse Nardin, MB&F, and Bamford and end off with a look at the top women's watches of this year and a visit to Parmigiani's workshops in Switzerland.1. Parmigiani: Watchmakers Of Yesterday, Today And TomorrowParmigiani is perhaps most famous for its Bugatti watch, but beyond that, the brand actually has a very interesting, though brief, history. In this special feature, our contributor, David Bredan, spent six days with Parmigiani, learning more about their history and learning how they make watches. Junghans Meister Handwind Watch
This is the Junghans "Meister Handaufzeug" or "Master Handwinding," a retro and classic dress watch scheduled for release in July of 2012. Based on the ETA/Pesaux 7001 movement, it's rather slim at 7.3mm thick and 37.7mm wide.?The design inspiration is a Junghans models from the 1930s, revamped to celebrate the brands' 150th anniversary. I think they did an admirable job. I really like the crown. Nicely sized for winding and tucked below the domed crystal. The movement is a classic, introduced in 1971 and used in the Blancpain 7002, Omega 651, Nomos Tangente, and many other watches out there. The 7001 has a 42 hour power reserve and is only 2.5mm thick. The movement, designed in an era of smaller watches, is narrower than the case so there's a gap between the edge of the sub seconds dial and the outer dial. That sticks out to me a bit, but otherwise I quite like the design. The Junghans Meister Handwind, with sub seconds in a thin case, is reminiscent of the Piaget Altiplano:And also of
A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Daymatic Watch
Although I've written about the new A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Daymatic watch elsewhere, I needed to mention it to my primary audience here on aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer, especially after getting my hands on them. Lange has officially released a new "grail watch." Extending the attractiveness of the Lange 1 line even more by essentially adding a new automatic movement and twisting up the design a bit. Plus, the watch has grown by just a hair from the Lange 1.?When A. Lange & Sohne was a reborn luxury brand in the 1990s, the avant garde Lange 1 watch to be their flagship model - with a look and poise un-paralleled elsewhere. Now, 15 years after the Lange 1 debuted its asymmetric face, we are presented with a new vision of the model. It is important to realize that there have been a number of Lange 1 watch iterations over the years. From the large sized XL model with its overlapping dials, to the world timer or moonphase models - the watch collection certainly has its share of versio
