Alpina Extreme Diver 300 Orange Bezel Watch
Dive watches are one of those categories that just about everyone seems to love, as evidenced by the sheer number that the brands are producing (as well as it being the focus of many micro-brands popping up lately). ?Alpina?themselves already had five other divers in their lineup prior to this new model being released. Their popular Extreme Diver 300 that we love now comes with a tweaked dial and bezel with orange colored markers. It isn't so much an evolution as it is a tasty new flavor. The Extreme Diver 300 Orange is Alpina's latest entry into the category - and actually, it's two entries. That's because they're introducing an automatic?(powered by the AL-525 movement) in a 44mm case with 22mm lugs, as well as a quartz-driven model (powered by the AL-240) in a 38mm case with 18mm lugs. While there are some notable differences with the movement and cushion case size, there are a lot of similarities to the two watches. For starters, both carry a water resistance rating of 300 meters, he
Baselworld 2013: Swatch Sistem51- Only 100 Swiss Francs for a Mechanical Watch!
Today sees the launch of the Swatch Sistem51 and the fire burns bright once more.Swatch watches were one of the guilty pleasures of my youth. When the Swatch craze took over the world in the early 90's, I was there in the thick of it. I remember going to Swatch boutiques looking for the "Bora Bora", the headline watch of the Scuba 200 series, and even starting a collection of the Swatch quartz chronographs when they first came out. Then, when the Midge Ure song "Breathe" came out, I was singing along like no tomorrow, making sure that I had a carefully selected Swatch on my wrist when it happened. There was something very cool about the attitude that Swatch embodied, and as a young boy whose only other option was a Casio or Seiko, everything by Swatch was instantly?elevated?to something special.?Of course, I grew up and Swatch was resolutely forgotten in?favor?of more sober watches in more traditional?colors. The?bright and sometimes gaudy designs of Swatch were put away.My early love f
HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 19
We talk about a few bad developments at Baselworld 2010 (not all new watches are good!) Then, we cut into an interview that John had with the founder of RGM watches - the only mechanical watch maker in America that makes their own movements.Listen to HourTime Show watch podcast episode 19 here.
Fall ATL GTG great fun!
Our fall 2012 ATL GTG was a great success! We had 19 WIS, one spouse and one Jr WIS (age 3). There were over 200 watches from all different manufacturers. Lum-Tec, as in the past, was a great sponsor. The Lum-Tec t-shirts and Lum-Tec watch display were well received. As always, Omegas were well represented. There to facilitate Omega discussions was Omega guru, Fr. John. Hexa sent a t-shirt which was given to a WIS who has a new K5000 on pre-order. He and I were the only ones who knew about Hexa and we shared about this new watch model. As one might say, a great time was had by all!. Cheers, Bill P
