Watches NEWS
I am very disillusioned at the moment with Omega
I posted a while back, excited that my new speedmaster (2 sub dial 2011 version on Alligator strap) was due in to my AD in a day or 2. Well that was around 3-4 weeks ago and still no watch. I phone constantly to find out the latest news of it's arrival only now to be told I am 13th on a list and it could be December. However the last 2 weekends I have travelled to London to visit 2 Omega Boutiques:- Old Bond Street and Regent Street and whilst there Harrods watch dept and low and behold they not only have one Speedmaster but at least 2 of them that I have physically seen. Why Does Omega insist on giving all the new watches to Boutiques (and Harrods, which is not a Boutique) to be just sitting in safes and display units when watch collectors like myself with outstanding orders for them cannot get one? I'd love to know what you guys think and perhaps you shed some light on this for me. Thanks
First Patek - 5167 now or wait for 5712?
I have the Patek itch and it needs to be scratched badly. If I were to own one and only one Patek, I have concluded that it would be the 5712. I love the asymmetrical dial, movement and complications on that model. However, I am unable to find an AD in Canada that is even willing to put my name on the waitlist, and at the moment, it is somewhat of out of my budget after two new pieces in the last 2 months. At first, I was not a huge fan of the 5167. It has slowly grown on me, and I've always considered adding one to the stable - but much to my dismay, it seems 5167 prices are also creeping upwards likely due to the tulip mania around the 5711.I've been offered a 5167 at an attractive price and I'm super tempted. I'm thinking of adding the 5167 now, which will hold me over until I can get a 5712 (at which point I can decide to flip the 5167 for the 5712, or something else in my collection.) Is this wise, or should I just wait for the 5712?
Changing Face of Time....
Some interesting observations about the latest World Time Pateksparing the 5131R from last year with the latest release of the 5131R with the revised cities ring it is evident that Patek has changed the circumference of the circle on which the outer cities wording is based - it has been reduced to conform to the new slightly smaller circumference used for the 5230. First picture shows 2015 version of 5131R and 2016 version of 5131R - it is difficult to clearly see any size difference in the circumference of the outer wording of the cities ring.Second picture shows a combined 2015 and 2016 cities ring. The right hand half of the cities ring is from the 2016 version and the left hand half is from the 2015 version. The overlaid red lines correspond to the inner circumference of both lines of text of the cities ring of the 2015 model. The inner red line also corresponds to the circumference of the inner line of text of the 2016 cities ring. The blue line corresponds to the circumference of
5270 Daily wear?
Hi all,Simple question really. Does anyone know how a watch like a 5270 holds up to daily wear?I'm not talking about scratching the case, more how the movement etc holds up to constant use?I'm looking to buy a GMT BLNR. One of the reasons is from everything I've read and the conversations I've had it seems that these watches can be worn for years, they sound fairly bulletproof. How does something like a 5270 compare to this? It costs more than ten times as much and is from one of the best names out there, but are they too delicate for more than occasional wear? Could you wear it day in day out for a lifetime?I would love to hear your thoughts. J
new bracelet for gmt
My old bracelet broke and didn't feel like sending out to rolex for however long ,so I sourced a super jubilee for it . Trying to find a local jeweler to fix my oyster but figured I wear this until then maybe sell or trade for a sub bracelet ,but I like it so who knows .Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
