Christie’s Auction Features Thomas Jefferson’s Watch Key
Christie’s Americana Week sale takes place January 21-25 at Rockefeller Plaza in New York. The sale includes a unique watch key owned by Thomas Jefferson. The key contains a lock of his wife’s hair and is inscribed “Martha W. Jefferson Born 19 Oct. 1748, Died 6 Sept. 1782.” Jefferson, who never remarried, pledged to always remember his wife. It is believed that Jefferson commissioned this watch key as a means of fulfilling that promise. Jefferson is known to have had a penchant for watches. Christie’s cites Silvio A. Bedini, “Thomas Jefferson, Clock Designer,” Proceedings of the American Philosophical Society, who wrote “Probably more than any other of the notable American statesmen, Jefferson had a special interest in timepieces.” Christie’s also notes that Jefferson intended for each of his grandchildren to inherit a gold watch, indicating that he considered these personal timepieces ideal for remembering loved ones. Royal Oak Offshore Safari Question
Hello everyone, I am currently interested in a safari. I recently tried one on at an AD and it was stunning. The more I think about the watch, I have just one question. Is it possible to order a royal oak style stainless steel bracelet that will fit the safari to go along with the horseback strap that comes on the watch? I know the titanium offshore bracelet looks great on that watch. I have tried researching it and haven't found much. I'm not terribly familiar with the brand so sorry for the ignorance on this topic. Most Nautilus owners and enthusiasts love the blue dial and it is a nice rich blue color. My first Nautilus was a blue dial, and although it does not get much wrist time anymore, it was and will be a classic watch.However is there any love for the white dial Nautilus? With its reduced popularity, are people seeing lower AD prices and secondary market prices?
