Gandhi Items Top $2 million at Auction
Lot 364 at Antiquorum’s March 4/5 New York auction exceeded expectations, bringing $2,096,000 including buyer’s premium. The lot included a silver keyless Zenith alarm pocketwatch formerly owned by Mahatma Gandhi and later given to his grandniece, Abha Gandhi. The watch dated from circa 1910 and it was accompanied in the sale by Gandhi's sandals, bowl, plate, glasses, images of Gandhi, and letters of authenticity from Gita Mehta, Talatsahid Khan Babi, and Professor Lester Kurtz.
Sadly my longtime favorite dealer is hanging it up
Jim at Continental Jewelers in Washington, DC, has decided to close out his watch business. As many of you recall, Jim's leased location was demolished for new construction several years ago. Because of his age (he will be 83 in October) and Omega's move from ADs to boutiques, Jim decided not to go with the expense of a new show room which meant losing his AD status with Omega. He has been able to continue business as usual but now due to his wife's illness, his intent is to be closed down by the end of the year. He has a couple of hundred watches that he needs to move so if you are looking for a new one, now is the time to give Jim a call.Jim asked me to thank all of his customers and forum friends for their prayers and support.
Let's see those Seamasters!!!!
Let's see those Seamasters new & old
Straps for the Speedy. Show me some good ones!!
I need some straps for my Speedy. I dont like the leather one I have on it. I have it on a NASA type of velcro and nylon right now. Show me some leather straps for the Speedmaster please! I want to buy one but dont know what to get or where to begin. I prefer a dual deployment type of clasp, but it doesnt have to be Omega DD, as those are very expensive as I understand it. I have a 69' Speedy what is the strap width on these? Is it still 20mm like the newer ones???Thanks in advance guys!
Incoming: Rolex Date
Hi Guys -- I just thought I'd share the Rolex Date that was given to me. It was purchased new in 1988 by my aunt for my Uncle (have receipt). He died a few years ago and as she was preparing to move houses, she gave it to me as a gift. I personally love its family story and how it compliments my 1601 Datejust. Pics of both of them below. One question: I haven't had the chance to pull the lugs off -- can anyone advise me of the model number?
