Unique Patek Pilot’s Watch Brings $1.7 Million
At Christie’s May 11 Geneva sale, a private Swiss museum paid SFr.1,891,000 ($1,734,862) for a unique, oversize aviator’s wristwatch made by Patek Philippe. The 55mm timepiece features splittable center seconds and an hour angle dial. This is the only watch of its kind known to exist, and until the sale, there was no mention of such a watch in the literature. The Patek Philippe archives confirm that this watch was completed in 1936, and that it was sold on September 28 of that year. The watch is thought to be a unique prototype made on special request. The case is chromed nickel. The dial is black lacquer. The scales and signature are carved into the plate and filled with off-white varnish. Luminous material was used to highlight the Arabic numerals and the outer 60 degrees scale, as well as the hands.The “hour” hand rotates once in 24 hours, indicating the degrees of arc against the center circle divided into 360. Omega Seamaster Professional Vancouver 2010 Olympics Watch
There is nothing wild about this limited edition Omega watch, and frankly that is the way I like my Omega limited edition watches. Nothing too avant garde, just a good sober looking timepiece with a nice theme. Omega is pretty much obligated to release limited edition watches for the Olympics. First, they are the official timekeeper for the Olympics (since 1932). Wouldn't it look silly if they didn't celebrate that fact every two years? Second, it is pretty much the type of marketing occasion you'd be an idiot to miss out on. For the 2008 Summer Olympics they released this really cool limited edition Speedmaster based watch, for 2010 it is back to the Seamaster for inspiration. The result is something impressively on par with the visuals in my mind when I think of the winter Olympics.In 2010, you'll find Vancouver Canada overrun with Olympians, their coaches, and fans of course. For me, it will be days of background noise on TV. While the games themselves only interest me offhandedly,

Would you replace this bezel?
All,I think it is time to send my Sub in for service. While I think it is in great overall shape, it has a small scratch on the bezel and a crack in the “pip” at the top of the bezel. Would you have this replaced and if so, any idea what I would be looking at for a price?

Rolex Magazine being discontinued
My AD told me last week that Rolex Magazine is being discontinued. The sub issue is the last one is what he said. With that news I would like to complete my collection, does anyone have extra copies of issue #1 (Daytona) or #3 (SkyDweller)?
