Introducing The Blancpain Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback AND The New High-Beat Caliber F385 (Which Might Actually Be The Real Story Here)
This year at BaselWorld, Blancpain followed up last year's Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe (HODINKEE "A Week On The Wrist" review here) with a chronograph in a similar form. That's cool and all, but to me the most interesting aspect of this watch is not the available fully ceramic case, or the NATO with ridiculously hardcore hardware, or the general sleekness of the end product. Nay – the most interesting part of this new Bathyscaphe is actually what's inside. This is the first Blancpain to feature the brand new caliber F385, which is a ground-up new concept for them and a fairly impressive new development that doesn't seem to have gotten a lot of attention. DSSD depth rating?
My eight year old was mesmerized when I told her that my watch is waterproof to 50 meters (gmt iic). Then I showed her the DSSD dial on the internet. Her question was very serious: Dad, do you think that watch can go one inch deeper than 3,900 meters? Does anyone know? This might be my chance to get her to like watches.
Hacking?
I’ve seen a few threads that have mentioned “hacking” what does this mean? I’ve only found that it refers to when the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out. Is there some use for this feature? I searched around some, feel free to point me to an article or thread! Thanks
