SIHH Preview: Girard-Perregaux 1966 Small Second
The Girard-Perregaux 1966 collection reflects the brand's ability to produce pure watchmaking classics. The latest addition in this line, the 1966 Small Second, embodies the essence of a refined timepiece right down to the smallest details. This piece is at once modern and timeless. The 40mm round case strikes a balance between the petite dress watches of yesterday and the larger pieces that are the fashion today.Girard-Perregaux says the design is largely inspired by the manufacture’s 19th century pocket watches. For this reason, Grand Feu enamel was the only choice for the dial, as it offers a firm historical connection, singular depth, and unique a character. Elegant painted Arabic numerals and blued steel leaf-shaped hour and minute hands compliment the artisanal dial. This model is powered by a new automatic movement, developed from the Girard-Perregaux caliber 3300, which offers a small second display that is just slightly offset to balance the design. Cartier Crash Watch Returns
This is one of those irresistible stories to discuss no matter how many times it has been told or how morbid the details. It involves Cartier, one of the most mysterious and popular watch and jewelry brands on the planet, and stories like this make watch collecting worth the money.A few years ago I noticed a vintage Cartier watch that looked as though it had been melted. I barely believed it was real. It didn't have a name or details, but I realized something must have been special about it. I later learned that it was a Cartier Crash. Originally produced in 1967 and later in the early 1990s as a limited edition, this extremely rare watch is a testament to emotion influencing design and the oddity that is the luxury world. Cartier will release a new limited edition collection of the Crash watch for 2013 as a high-end?jewelry?piece on a bracelet. While this new edition is a vast departure from the theme of the original, it is interesting to see Cartier continue the legend of the Crash.A

Vintage Patek Care
Greetings. First post be kind. Photo is of my grandfather's Patek that was given to me as a gift prior to my wedding. The watch was serviced and I wore it only once on my wedding day. Since that magic day, the watch has been sitting in a safety deposit box for twenty years. My question is can I wind the watch now without doing damage? Should I service the watch first? I have lately developed the watch bug and I would like to wear the Patek maybe a couple times a year. Hesitant to do an expensive service for such limited use. Any information the forum can provide about the watch is much appreciated. Thanks
