Close-Up: Rolex’s 50th Anniversary Daytona (with Video)
Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, the chronograph watch made famous by actor and motor racing enthusiast Paul Newman. The anniversary edition that Rolex released at Baselworld 2013 still generates strong opinions in the brand’s legion of fans. Here is a closer look at the watch. The first Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona a wristwatch in a steel case with a manual-wind chronograph movement, named after the famous racetrack was released in 1963 and has been produced in various versions ever since. This model, however, is the very first Daytona with a platinum case. The color scheme a dial in what Rolex calls “ice blue” and a bezel in what it terms “chestnut brown,” is also unp

Inside The Manufacture: With Jaeger-LeCoultre In Switzerland, Pt. 1: The Very First Tourbillons Of J
The tourbillon hasn't exactly become ubiquitous, but there's an argument to be made that it may be, just a bit, a victim of its own success. To put it more exactly, the tourbillon may be a victim of the success of modern precision manufacturing methods, which have made it possible to produce tourbillon wristwatches that can be priced almost unbelievably inexpensively, relative to the prices the complication used to command. However, if there is one almost universally valid truism in mechanical horology nowadays, it's that it's not so much what you do as how you do it, and how Jaeger-LeCoultre did tourbillons – and continues to do them – is a microcosm of the evolution of the tourbillon, and the hopes we might have for its future. On last week's visit to the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture in Le Sentier, we got a chance to look deeper than usual into what the tourbillon meant, and could mean in years to come. 1 OF 6 Jaeger-LeCoultre's colle

Diver Rubber
A week or two ago I picked up an AP Bands nice matte black crock strap for my diver. It was great and I loved the change in look, no regrets, but I just switched back to the rubber strap. Why?It is just so amazingly comfortable!! Nothing else like it. I also missed the two channel lines coming off the links at the head of the watch. Subtle, not noticeable when you are used to it, but the detail is missed when its not there. Love my diver
