Three On Three: Comparing Independent Watches Under $15,000
Three on Three has returned. In our first head-to-head-to-head comparison, we took a look at three of what we deemed to be the very finest in-house, manually wound dress watches on the planet. Today we move into a broader category, but one that is very dear to our collective heart here at HODINKEE – independent watchmaking. But even more interesting than the folks who craft an amazing piece of original horology and then charge you for it, like a Laurent Ferrier, Philippe Dufour, or Kari Voutilainen, there is a group of independents out there that make fantastic products with unique twists and don't ask for a ton of money. Today we are looking at three truly independent watches, each for under $15,000.Read on for a detailed analysis of the Sarpaneva K1, the Speake-Marin Serpent Calendar, and the Habring2 Jumping Second Pilot. The Sarpaneva K1 - By Kelly Jasper - 1 OF 118 A few weeks ago, when reviewing the Hublot 692 Bang, I mentioned that the watch
First Time AP Purchase
OK...after nearly a month of contemplating finally pulled the trigger on my first AP and getting real anxious I hope this turns out to be the experience I have been waiting for.Huge kudos to one of our great trusted sellers Takuya!
My 1968 321 Speedmaster & 1969 861 Speedmaster
Over the years I managed to pick up both from original owners these 2 Speedmasters. They are some of my favorite chronos to wear.
Ploprof problem ''bezel''
Hello!I just arrive from China, now I'm in Russia. Las time, in Shanghai airport, not for the first time, I noticed that something was bad in the bezel of my Ploprof. I can turn the bezel, but sometimes it's hard. The first time, I said, no problem. But now... IT'S IMPOSSIBLE to turn it. Nearly fix. I think, something is bad under the bezel, some problem. I'm always traveling and this watch is always with me, looks like I should leave the watch some time in the spa.And just say one more thing, I DON'T KNOW WHY! when I put the watch under hot water, rotate the bezel one or to times... NO PROBLEM! I can use the bezel nearly for three hours, the bezel is working well, but after this time, fixed/blocked again.Any solution? Did anyone notice the same in their Ploprof?Best regards
It's not new, it's not old, it's something in between
It's a Watchco SM300! Actually not Watchco proper, because I built it myself. I had a 565 calibre in a completely buggered Geneve; the movement was good, but the case and dial were beyond repair. So a quick order of parts and a trip to my watchmaker later, I have a shiny new SM300. Sure it is a franken, but I love it. It's gotten a lot of attention at work too (I work in the watch industry).
