Three Things to Know About the Patek Philippe Chiming Jump Hour
The ornate, double-dialed Grandmaster Chime dominated coverage of Patek Philippe's 175th anniversary, which the brand marked last year. It is an amazing timepiece that makes a big statement. The watch we look at today is its counterpoint. With one dial and two hands, it appears to be the paradigm of simplicity, but it's not.The Patek Philippe Chiming Jump Hour is one of the timepieces Patek Philippe created to celebrate its 175th anniversary. Bearing Reference 5275P-001, it will be produced in a limited edition of 175 pieces, priced at SFr. 310,000. As the name indicates, this watch offers a jumping hour display with minutes and small seconds, and it strikes a single chime at the top of each hour. Let's take a look at why this watch is much more than meets the eye.Patek’s Ref. 5275 Chiming Jump Hour is far more complicated than it looks.1. Complexity and RarityThe old adage about not judging a book by its cover was written for the Chiming Jump Hour. If you don't think a watch tha
Linde Werdelin "The Lab" Watch Maker Blog Exemplar
Watch companies are getting keen on blogging. Maybe I have shown them a good example? Different watch brands are experimenting with various ways of doing it, but the best approach is something like Linde Werdelin has done. Sure they could have more posts up and spend more time on it, but they are doing a good job so far with their new blog that details not only the development of Linde Werdelin watches, but the lifestyle that goes with Linde Werdelin watches from the maker and owner standpoint. From your seat you generally only see the "finished product" and the fancy marketing photos that come from the secret watch making lairs - often in Europe. But who are these people? And how serious are they about all the claims they make such as "sport watch" or "1000 meters water resistance." Sometimes it is really hard to tell and you don't know whether it is a marketing goon writing about this, or actually a couple of watch nerds testing each claim.Linde Werdelin's "The Lab" blog helps shed l
Frederique Constant Classic Moonphase Review
When Frederique Constant released the Classic Moonphase a few months ago, it seemed to turn a lot of heads. Staying true to the brand's philosophy of creating accessible luxury timepieces, the watch boasted a new in-house caliber (more of a variation, to be picky) and a decidedly Patek-y look for a relatively low price point. Coming in just below $4k, the watch offered a lot of value for an in-house movement, and an aesthetic that often costs an arm and a leg to obtain. It also showed off an eye-catching flip-open case back, which gave it some unexpected panache. The last time we reviewed an FC it was the spiritual cousin of this watch, the Slimline Moonphase, which used a similar movement, and achieved high points for style and finish. While the watch was a winner, one of the complaints a lot of people had about it was the 42mm diameter. While I found it still wore very well, the notion of a 42mm dress/formal watch with a very large dial is understandably a bit concerning. The Classic
Speedmaster Gemini
What do you guys think about the Speedmaster 3565.80 Gemini? It's a limited edition piece with only 2005 made and is basically the moon watch with a blue dial and bezel. I'm being offered this watch bnib for 2300. is this a good deal?
Advice needed on Explorer 1. Please help.
I am over the moon with my Oyster Perpetual 39 in Rhodium and thinking about a second Rolex some time soon in the future.I like the 2010 white gold 3,6,9 EXP1 and could possibly get a good deal on that OR do I get a new AD 2016 EXP1 with the lume 3,6,9. To be honest the 2010 and 2016 are great watches and I like lume 3,6,9 or white gold 3,6,9.After doing my due diligence on the forum I have noticed the 2010 has short hands. Opinions vary considerably on the forum regarding the hands.Should I go for 2010 EXP1 or 2016 Exp 1??????
