Tiffany & Co. Streamerica on eBay: Timeless Classic And Chronometer
The Streamerica is one of my favorite watch designs. It is no longer being sold, and was available for a few years through Tiffany & Co. as part of their Streamerica series of jewelry. The Streamerica is an interesting looking watch. Curious in its design, it seems to have been inspired by American industrialism. The riveted look of the watch and band are a tribute to early trains, planes, ships built in the United States. The look of the watch is meant to appear to have been bolted together. The rounded edges evoke a streamlined aerodynamic look suggesting speed movement. This is intended to be a travelers watch, or at least for someone who is on the move. Anyone however can appreciate its tough yet sophisticated shapes out of a engineer's technical manual.Even though the watch is so reminiscent of Americana, European born Jorg Hysek was commissioned to design the piece. Hysek is a legend in his own right having designed many famous watches including the Kirium series for Tag Heue
Review: Steinhart Ocean Vintage Military
The Ocean line by Steinhart is a group of Rolex homage divers. There are various models that cover everything from GMT Masters, to Sea Dwellers to a particularly well-done Explorer II 1655 (the Steve McQueen model),?but the bulk of the Ocean series are Submariner homages. Of the plethora of models Steinhart makes, the Ocean Vintage Military really stands out as a unique offering.?This is because the OVM refers to a very specific, rare and interesting model of the Rolex Submariner, the ref. 5517 Mil-Sub. The 5517 was a military issue Submariner for the British Royal Navy in the early 70's. As a non-civilian model, it had some special design details that make it truly unique in the Sub family. The two most noticeable differences are in the hands and bezel insert. The 5517 lacks the iconic Mercedes hour hand and instead has a broad and stubby sword hand, and the bezel insert has individual minute markers going all around the bezel, rather than just from 0-15. The other more subtle details
School me on the Scuba models
Looking to add my first AP to my collection. I recently came across the Scuba models which appear to be the same 44mm case as the ROO Diver but the dial has numerals and there is a small colored band around the dial circumference. I think the small touch of color looks great and very unique. I have many questions though.I don't see these listed on the AP site at all. I think some are special editions?Am I correct that the case is identical to the ROO Diver? Why have I not seen one for sale or on display here on TRF? There is no shortage of rare and unique pieces here!Anything good or bad to watch out for?I like the 44mm size and I tried on a diver and loved it. I'm used to my PAM233, Deep Sea and Navitimer so no stranger to a larger timepiece. I do enjoy more unique or interesting watches, ie Hulk vs a traditional black Sub.This option may be a good match for me, what do you think? Price should be higher or lower than the Diver? Thanks!
Is a 5167 redundant if you have a 5711?
Been toying with the idea of picking up a 5167/1A. Same 324SC movement. Both are water resistant sport watches. Relatively same size. What do owners of both think?
