Hublot Joins Team Alinghi for 2010 America’s Cup Defense
Hublot and Alinghi announced yesterday that Hublot has committed to support Alinghi’s campaign in the 33rd America's Cup. Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver (photo right) joined Alinghi team president Ernesto Bertarelli at Alinghi’s training base in Genoa, Italy for the announcement. Alinghi will defend against the challenger, Larry Ellison’s BMW Oracle yacht, in the waters off Ras al-Khaimah, UAE, beginning on February 8, 2010. Hublot has always had close links with the world of yachting – through its name, which means ‘porthole’ in French, through its partnerships with prestigious sailing clubs such as Yacht Club Monaco and Real Club Nautico de Palma, and through sponsorship deals with numerous races and yachts. Jean-Claude Biver is thrilled with the new partnership: “We had the chance to admire the yacht as it left the yard, and when it first took to the water on Lake Geneva. It is a magnificent boat and it represents the essence of Swiss expertis
Rodeo Drive Festival Of Watches In Beverly Hills October 10-13, 2013
October 10-13, 2013 is the inaugural "Festival of Watches" event in Beverly Hills, California. Los Angeles has sorely needed a decent watch event and this is a good start. The Rodeo Drive Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with a range of watch boutiques will have some special events, open store hours, and watches during the festival period. The real night to enjoy the event however is October 10th starting in the late afternoon from about 6-9pm. Many of the boutiques will have special "open houses" that include everything from an exhibition of special timepieces, watchmakers, gifts, and probably a decent helping of complimentary drinks. The map above shows each of the boutiques that will be participating in the Festival of Watches. Stores include Westime, Porsche Design, Louis Vuitton, Rolex, Patek Philippe, The Tourbillon Store, Montblanc, Hublot, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and more. Even though the event will go from October 10-13, the 10th is probably the only evening with extended store h
Tokyo Street LED Scope Watch Targets Time
The Japanese seem hell bent on devising new ways of telling the time. Countless experimental watches both novel and down right silly have been released over the years with an alternative to the traditional dial or digital approach to telling the time. Lots of them have you counting dots or lines, and doing some formula in your head to tell the time. I admit that many of them have looked pretty cool, I'd nay choose them as a device for chronometric measurement. The two biggest purveyors of such novelty watches are Tokyo Flash and Tokyo Street. I doubt that the name similarity is a coincidence, but they are separate companies as far as I can tell. While most of these watches succeed in creating visual interest, few are particularly useful in my humble opinion. Once in a while they come out with something that I might actually use, and the Tokyo Street LEC Scope watch is one of them.Looking at the watch you can see two perpendicular lines that intersect on a X/Y axis. The point of their in
