Top 10 Gold Watches
Gold watches represent wealth and status, and in a sense, it has always been that way. Having said that, watch makers used gold as a case material for very practical reasons in a historical sense. Gold as a metal has some interesting properties, from being easily machined to being heavily tarnish-resistant (it also takes a polish really well). When gold is mixed with other metals to produce alloys, it mixes some of the beneficial properties of gold with the hardness of those other metals. Historically, most gold-cased watches have been either 14k or 18k gold. 18k gold watches are a relatively recent phenomenon, having become popular starting in the early 1980s, when gold prices began to increase, allowing watch makers to add more gold but also increase the prices of their gold watches. In the business world, gold watches have had an interesting history. During the 20th century, it was the goal of many people to work at a company for many years finally to be gifted a gold watch upon reti
Fonderie 47 Inversion Principle Tourbillon Watch In Red Gold
Fonderie 47, the company whose premise it was to use luxury product dollars to help clear Africa of AK-47 assault rifles released their first luxury watch, the Inversion Principle Tourbillon, in 2013. The mega-challenging timepiece was designed by Switzerland-based watch creator Adrian Glessing and produced by David Candaux, and focused on the idea of putting a series of retrograde indicators around a centrally-mounted tourbillon. The company began with a series of luxury jewelry products, but the ultimate goal was to have a watch collection to act as the face of the Fonderie 47 brand's products - at least for men.For 2014, Fonderie 47 returns with an 18k rose gold version of the Fonderie 47 Inversion Principle Tourbillon after the initial limited edition of just 20 pieces. To chat about the Fonderie 47 Inversion Principle Tourbillon and the brand overall, I caught up with Fonderie 47 co-founder Peter Thum, who was wearing a prototype of the 18k red gold Fonderie 47 Inversion Principle
Omega Speedmaster Date "Yemen" Watch
Why the Speedmaster Date "Yemen?" Well, Omega doesn't give it a special name, and the dial does bear the colors of the Yemen's flag - which is red, white, and black. So that is the nick name I have given it to differentiate it from the zillion other Speedmaster watches. I am discussing this Omega Speedmaster Date variant because I think it is a particularly handsome look - that reminds me of a combo of modern and retro design cues. And is it just me, or does this "theme" remind you a bit of the Rolex Paul Newman Daytona? The light toned white dial with black subdials really bring out the look of the subdials, even when seen from afar. Then, the added red color add a youthful sportiness to the Speedmaster look, that itself doesn't always feel "fresh." I've shown most of the variants here, but there are a few others than you can check out via Omega here. You can see that Omega offers it in the Valjoux 7750 movement version, as well as with their Calibre 3304 (which I think is an ETA 2894,
Incoming just in time for the holiday!
I liked this one from the start and couldn't wait to get some wrist time. I got it yesterday, but I finally had a little time today for a post. I have it mounted on my B&S strap, but looking forward to trying it on a bracelet.
