Hamilton Khaki Takeoff Review
Every year, Hamilton releases one wild, limited edition watch to generate buzz, show what they can do and, I honestly think, to have some fun. Last year's Face 2 Face is a good example of the latter. Not really a watch (or watches, to be correct) that I imagine anyone would wear, but a great conversation piece for the brand. The year before that, they made their great hand wound Khaki Navy Marine, which came with a gimbaled deck box. We reviewed the open edition of that, the Khaki Navy Pioneer Automatic, which is still one of our favorites from the brand.Last Basel, they announced the Khaki Takeoff Automatic Chronograph, which when I, and I think most others, first saw, really got our attention. Sure, their 2014 line had plenty of nice pieces, but this one stood out. It was bold and aggressive, with a bullhead design, black case and yellow highlights. Lou Gehrig's Hamilton Piping Rock Sells For $340,000, More Than Twice What It Sold For In 2011
Lou Gehrig needs no introduction. In 1928, he received a Hamilton Piping Rock wristwatch for winning the World Series. In 2011, it came up for sale, and we covered it here. The watch ended up selling for $155,000. Just this past week, it went under the hammer again at SCP auctions. The result? A final selling price of more than DOUBLE what it brought just three years ago. 2 OF 2 With a final sale price of $340,200, this continues to make a case for provenance driven sales. The Hamilton Piping Rock is a very interesting, and relatively desirable American wristwatch, but by no means very valuable. Seeing before buying
Hi everyone,I've been trying to compare a 5167 or a 5711. I know the blue 5711 is ridiculously hard to come by and the white 5711 is also quite scarce in stores (but a shorter wait list). The discussion comes up quite frequently about comparing the two and everyone's preferences, but one thing I have been struggling with recently is actually trying to see these in person and finding which looks best on me.I've seen tons of pictures (thanks to everyone on this amazing forum!) and would definitely love to purchase my first Patek, but I have a hard time deciding on one of these watches before actually getting to see and compare them in person and trying them on. I went to my local Patek dealer this weekend and called an out-of-state one I visited a couple of months ago. Neither unfortunately had any of the three in stock. Very Speicla 5004 Goes to the Auction block
When I saw that this watch was going to be auctioned off all I could think was damn why don't I have the funds to be in the bidding. My all time Patek Grail Limited to just 50 pieces the 5004 in Stainless Steel. They were made at the end of the 5004 production run.
