Bulova at Basel: Curves and Space
Bulova came to Baselworld 2016 packing a couple of new, interesting quartz chronographs that left quite an impression. Bulova is very much trying to reinvent themselves these days, looking back at their history of innovation (think Accutron and the world’s first televised ad), adding a new and exciting spark to their design direction. Though they had a lot show at Basel this year, we have two offerings to look at today; one taking a step forward and one a step into the past.Bulova CURVThough they dabble with mechanicals, Bulova mainly produces quartz movement watches. The brand became well known for its Accutron line, which contained the famous tuning fork movement, that lead the way for the quartz technology we have today. Pairs Well With: Max Bill by Junghans
For this edition of Pairs Well With we chose an iconic Max Bill hand-wound by Junghans. As one of, if not the, definitive Bauhaus watch, it is defined by its legibility and clean form. Thin black lines mark the perimeter of the watch and bring the eye outward to the minute markings and inward to hours. Nothing is fussy and nothing is unnecessary. Originally produced in the 1960's and later reintroduced, it is clearly a timeless design that has informed the look and feel of many generations of watches.? 5712R Price
I think the 5712R should be my next acquisition. But from a negotiation standpoint, how much should a fair price be for it? I know most PM models there is more wiggle room than with steel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
