Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Liquidmetal Limited Edition
Omega has announced the launch of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Liquidmetal in a limited edition of 1948 pieces, in honor of the year the Seamaster was launched. The watch features a ceramic bezel with the numbers and scale made from Liquidmetal, an alloy created by Swatch Group researchers collaborating with Omega’s product development team. Liquidmetal is an amorphous metal C a metallic material with a disordered, non-crystalline atomic structure. Its fusion temperature is half that of conventional titanium alloys but when it is cooled, its hardness is three times as great as that of stainless steel. Its amorphous structure allows it to bond seamlessly with the ceramic bezel. The Liquidmetal is a bulk metallic glass alloy consisting of five elements: zirconium, titanium, copper, nickel and beryllium. A bulk metallic glass can, by virtue of its low critical cooling rate, be formed into a structure with a thickness of more than a tenth of a millimeter. Zirconium is an important const
Porsche Design P'6780 Diver Watch Is Hand-Me-Down Eterna
When I visited the Porsche Design booth at Baselworld 2010 I was pretty amused to see the new P'6780 Diver watch cause it looked pretty familiar. In fact, just a few years ago Eterna released a watch that was almost identical, called the Eterna KonTiki Diver. I really loved about that piece and wrote about it here. Why was it that somehow the Eterna KonTiki Diver was now a simplified Porsche Design watch? For starters you should know that Eterna makes all the watches for Porsche Design. So it seemed pretty clear that this was a deliberate move, meant to erase the history of the KonTiki Diver! If you compare the two watches, the Porsche Design P'678 Diver is a bit more simple, streamlined, and hopefully a bit less expensive. The KonTiki Diver retailed for bout $10,000. Though it had a ton of cool technology. The complex titanium case flipped out of a cage for winding and for a new position on the wrist. It just felt totally space age. Also, you needed to pull out the inner case so as to
PIAGET Altiplano Marqueterie de nacre et bois
The Piaget rose with its hundred bright pink and softly scented "peony" petals is an endless source of inspiration for the brand. Once again, it is unfurling its fuchsia flower on the dial of an Altiplano. To create the bloom, the artist Rose Saneuil selected different materials (white mother-of-pearl, grained plane and pale pink maple, candy and scarlet sycamore), cut them up then assembled them, piece by piece, from the chapter ring to the heart of the dial. It took 25 hours and 96 wooden and mother-of-pearl pieces to make the dial. That means it took around 450 hours for this Boulle School graduate to make the 18 Altiplano Marqueterie de nacre et bois watches. The petals lie beneath two silver baton-shape hour and minute hands brought to life by the ultra-slim manual wind 430P calibre inside the 38mm diamond and white gold case. Price: 70,500 CHF. Can someone tell me more about this vintage Chronomat Ref 818?
Hello Breitling Forum members...I typically lurk on the Rolex Forums but I need some help please regarding my recent acquisition of this vintage Breitling Chronomat reference 818. My internet research indicates it is from about 1971 and houses a Valjoux 7733 manual winding movement. The watch is keeping very good time and the Chrono functions seem to work quite well. I know it's called a Big Case (48mm) and for good reason. Can anyone advise me on anything else I should know about this very nice vintage Breitling Chronomat? I am not sure if I want to flip it for something else or get the crystal buffed or replaced and enjoy it...it's kind of big even by today's standards. Any value estimations would also be much appreciated. Thanks much...Frank
